5 I zatrudne žena, te posla i javi Davidu govoreći: Trudna sam.
5 Y concibió la mujer, y enviólo á hacer saber á David, diciendo: Yo estoy embarazada.
6 Tada David posla k Joavu i poruči: Pošlji mi Uriju Hetejina. I posla Joav Uriju k Davidu.
6 Entonces David envió á decir á Joab: Envíame á Uría Hetheo. Y enviólo Joab á David.
7 I kad Urija dođe k njemu, zapita ga David kako je Joav i kako je narod i kako ide rat.
8 Potom reče David Uriji: Idi kući svojoj, i operi noge svoje.
10 I javiše Davidu govoreći: Urija nije otišao kući svojoj. A David reče Uriji: Nisi li došao s puta?
Y dijo David á Uría: ¿No has venido de camino? ¿por qué pues no descendiste á tu casa?
14 A ujutru napisa David knjigu Joavu, i posla po Uriji.
23 Y dijo el mensajero á David: Prevalecieron contra nosotros los hombres, que salieron á nosotros al campo, bien que nosotros les hicimos retroceder hasta la entrada de la puerta;
27 A kad prođe žalost, posla David i uze je u kuću svoju, i ona mu posta žena, i rodi mu sina.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

But when his lust prompted him to take Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, the Scripture said concerning him, "Now, the thing (sermo) which David had done appeared wicked in the eyes of the Lord;" and Nathan the prophet is sent to him, pointing out to him his crime, in order that he, passing sentence upon and condemning himself, might obtain …
