DK latinica Serbian Bible: Daničić–Karadžić (Latin script)
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
1 A ti govori šta pristoji zdravoj nauci:
2 Starcima da budu trezni, pošteni, čisti, zdravi u veri, u ljubavi, u trpljenju;
6 Exhorta asimismo á los mancebos á que sean comedidos;
7 A u svemu sam sebe podaj za ugled dobrih dela, u nauci celost, poštenje,
9 [Exhorta] á los siervos á que sean sujetos á sus señores, que agraden en todo, no respondones;
12 učeći nas da se odreknemo bezbožnosti i želja ovog sveta, i da pošteno i pravedno i pobožno poživimo na ovom svetu,
13 čekajući blaženu nadu i javljanje slave velikog Boga i Spasa našeg Isusa Hrista,

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 2:2 John Chrysostom, Homilies on Titus (Homily IV)

    There are some failings which age has, that youth has not. Some indeed it has in common with youth, but in addition it has a slowness, a timidity, a forgetfulness, an insensibility, and an irritability.

There, too, he says: "But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: that the aged men be sober," and so on. And there, too: "These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority.
