1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar timbers, and masons, and carpenters, to build a house for him.
1 Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees, masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.
2 And David knew that the Lord [had] designed him to be king over Israel; because his kingdom was highly exalted, on account of his people Israel.
2 David perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted, for his people Israel’s sake.
3 And David took more wives in Jerusalem: and there were born to David more sons and daughters.
3 David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David became the father of more sons and daughters.
4 And these [are] the names of those that were born, who were [born] to him in Jerusalem; Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
4 These are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
5 and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,
5 Ibhar, Elisua, Eliphelet,
5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
6 and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
6 Noga, Nepheg, Japhías,
6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
7 and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
7 Elisama, Beel-iada y Eliphelet.
7 Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8 And the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel: and all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard [it], and went out to meet them.
8 When the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out against them.
9 And the Philistines came and assembled together in the giants’ valley.
9 Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to him, Go up, and I will deliver them into thy hands.
10 David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand.”
11 And he went up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said, God has broken through enemies by my hand like a breach of water: therefore he called the name of that place, the Breach of Perazim.
11 So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like waters breaking out. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
12 And the Philistines left their gods there; and David gave orders to burn them with fire.
12 They left their gods there; and David gave a command, and they were burned with fire.
13 And the Philistines once more assembled themselves in the giants’ valley.
13 The Philistines made another raid in the valley.
14 And David inquired of God again; and God said to him, Thou shalt not go after them; turn away from them, and thou shalt come upon them near the pear trees.
14 David volvió á consultar á Dios, y Dios le dijo: No subas tras ellos, sino rodéalos, para venir á ellos por delante de los morales;
14 David inquired again of God; and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come on them opposite the mulberry trees.
15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear the sound of their tumult in the tops of the pear trees, then thou shalt go into the battle: for God has gone out before thee to smite the army of the Philistines.
15 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then go out to battle; for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”
16 And he did as God commanded him: and he smote the army of the Philistines from Gibeon to Gezer.
16 David did as God commanded him; and they attacked the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
17 And the name of David was [famous] in all the land; and the Lord put the terror of him on all the nations.
17 The fame of David went out into all lands; and Yahweh brought the fear of him on all nations.
