Notes on this text (1)

1 Salmo de David. Canto para la dedicación de la casa. Te alabaré y te honraré, Señor, porque me has levantado; no has dejado que mis enemigos se alegren de mi desgracia. 2 Señor, Dios mío, clamé a ti y me sanaste. 11 Has convertido mi tristeza en danza; me has quitado la ropa de luto y me has vestido de alegría, 12 para que mi ser te cante alabanzas y no guarde silencio. Señor, Dios mío, te alabaré para siempre.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 30:11 Augustine of Hippo, Homilies on the First Epistle of John (Homily IX)

"Thou hast turned for me my mourning into joy: Thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; to the end that my glory may sing to thee, and that I be not pricked." What is this, "That I be not pricked?" That there be not that which shall goad my conscience.
