LXXUP Updated Brenton English Septuagint WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and beheld, and lo! Esau his brother coming, and four hundred men with him; and Jacob divided the children to Leah and to Rachel, and the two handmaids.
1 Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two servants.
2 And he put the two handmaids and their children with the first, and Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last.
2 He put the servants and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.
3 But he advanced himself before them, and did reverence to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother.
3 He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4 And Esau ran on to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they both wept.
4 Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.
5 And Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, What are these to thee? And he said, The children with which God has mercifully blessed thy servant.
5 He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
6 And the maidservants and their children drew near and did reverence.
6 Then the servants came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.
7 And Leah and her children drew near and did reverence; and after this drew near Rachel and Joseph, and did reverence.
7 Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8 And he said, What are these things to thee, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That thy servant might find grace in thy sight, my lord.
8 Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” Jacob said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”
9 And Esau said, I have much, my brother; keep thine own.
9 Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”
10 And Jacob said, If I have found grace in thy sight, receive the gifts through my hands; therefore have I seen thy face, as if anyone should see the face of God, and thou shalt be well pleased with me. 10 Y dijo Jacob: No, yo te ruego, si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, toma mi presente de mi mano, pues que así he visto tu rostro, como si hubiera visto el rostro de Dios; y hazme placer.
10 Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
11 Receive my blessings, which I have brought thee, because God has had mercy on me, and I have all things; and he constrained him, and he took [them]. 11 Toma, te ruego, mi dádiva que te es traída; porque Dios me ha hecho merced, y todo lo que hay [aquí] es mío. Y porfió con él, y tomóla.
11 Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.
12 And he said, Let us depart, and proceed right onward. 12 Y dijo: Anda, y vamos; y yo iré delante de ti.
12 Esau said, “Let’s take our journey, and let’s go, and I will go before you.”
13 And he said to him, My lord knows, that the children are very tender, and the flocks and the herds with me are with young; if then I shall drive them hard one day, all the cattle will die.
13 Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.
14 Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.
14 Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”
15 And Esau said, I will leave with thee some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? it is enough that I have found favor before thee, [my] lord.
15 Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the people who are with me.” He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”
16 And Esau returned on that day on his journey to Seir.
16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
17 And Jacob departs to his tents; and he made for himself there habitations, and for his cattle he made booths; therefore he called the name of that place, Booths.
17 Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18 And Jacob came to Salem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he departed out of Mesopotamia of Syria, and took up a position in front of the city.
18 Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city.
19 And he bought the portion of the field, where he pitched his tent, of Hamor the father of Shechem, for a hundred lambs.
19 He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.
20 And he set up there an altar, and called on the God of Israel.
20 He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel.
