2 Ali zbog kurvarstva svaki da ima svoju ženu, i svaka žena da ima svog muža;
6 Ali ovo govorim po svetu a ne po zapovesti;
10 Mas á los que están juntos en matrimonio, denuncio, no yo, sino el Señor: Que la mujer no se aparte del marido;
19 Obrezanje je ništa, i neobrezanje je ništa; nego držanje zapovesti Božijih.
20 Svaki neka ostane u onom zvanju u kome je pozvan.
27 ¿Estás ligado á mujer? no procures soltarte.
29 A ovo govorim, braćo, jer je ostalo vreme prekraćeno, da će i oni koji imaju žene biti kao oni koji nemaju;
29 Esto empero digo, hermanos, que el tiempo es corto: lo que resta es, que los que tienen mujeres sean como los que no las tienen;
30 i koji plaču kao koji ne plaču; i koji se raduju kao koji se ne raduju; i koji kupuju kao koji nemaju;
30 Y los que lloran, como los que no lloran; y los que se huelgan, como los que no se huelgan; y los que compran, como los que no poseen;
32 A ja hoću da ste vi bezbrižni. Ko je neoženjen brine se za Gospodnje, kako će ugoditi Gospodu;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 7:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on First Corinthians (Homily XIX)

    Having corrected the three heaviest things laid to their charge, one, the distraction of the Church, another, about the fornicator, a third, about the covetous person, he thenceforth uses a milder sort of speech. And he interposes some exhortation and advice about marriage and virginity, giving the hearers some respite from more unpleasant subjects.

In the next place, David explains their question, for he says that when the fashion of this world passes away, not only shall God remain, …
