PT1904 Patriarchal Text 1904 (accented, eBible edition)
2 Evo ja Pavle kažem vam da ako se obrežete Hristos vam ništa neće pomoći.
5 Jer mi duhom čekamo od vere nadu pravde.
6 Jer u Hristu Isusu niti šta pomaže obrezanje ni neobrezanje, nego vera, koja kroz ljubav radi.
7 Ἐτρέχετε καλῶς· τίς ὑμᾶς ἐνέκοψε τῇ ἀληθείᾳ μὴ πείθεσθαι;
9 Malo kvasca ukiseli sve testo.
11 A ja, braćo, ako još obrezanje propovedam, zašto me gone? Tako se ukide sablazan krstova.
17 Jer telo želi protiv duha, a duh protiv tela; a ovo se protivi jedno drugom, da ne činite ono šta hoćete.
18 Ako li vas duh vodi, niste pod zakonom.
20 idolopoklonstvo, čaranja, neprijateljstva, svađe, pakosti, srdnje, prkosi, raspre, sablazni, jeresi,
22 A rod je duhovni ljubav, radost, mir, trpljenje, dobrota, milost, vera,
23 krotost, uzdržanje; na to nema zakona.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 5:22 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book V, Preface)

… again, he proceeds to tell us the spiritual actions which vivify a man, that is, the engrafting of the Spirit; thus saying, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, goodness, benignity, faith, meekness, continence, chastity: against these there is no law." As, therefore, he who has gone forward to the better things, and has brought forth …
