2 pošto otide iz Jerusalima car Jehonija i carica i dvorani i knezovi Judini i jerusalimski, i drvodelje i kovači.
5 Gradite kuće i sedite u njima; sadite vrtove i jedite rod njihov;
5 Edificad casas, y morad; y plantad huertos, y comed del fruto de ellos;
6 ženite se i rađajte sinove i kćeri; i sinove svoje ženite, i kćeri svoje udajte, neka rađaju sinove i kćeri, i množite se tu i ne umanjujte se.
9 Jer vam oni lažno prorokuju u moje ime, ja ih nisam poslao, govori Gospod.
12 Tada ćete me prizivati i ići ćete i molićete mi se, i uslišiću vas.
12 Entonces me invocaréis, é iréis y oraréis á mí, y yo os oiré:
13 I tražićete me, i naći ćete me, kad me potražite svim srcem svojim.
15 Jer rekoste: Gospod nam podiže proroke u Vavilonu.
16 Así empero ha dicho Jehová, del rey que está sentado sobre el trono de David, y de todo el pueblo que mora en esta ciudad, de vuestros hermanos que no salieron con vosotros en cautiverio;
18 Y perseguirélos con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia; y darélos por escarnio á todos los reinos de la tierra, por maldición y por espanto, y por silbo y por afrenta á todas la gentes á las cuales los habré arrojado;
21 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, acerca de Achâb hijo de Colías, y acerca de Sedechîas hijo de Maasías, quienes os profetizan en mi nombre falsamente: He aquí los entrego yo en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y él los herirá delante de vuestro ojos;
28 Jer posla k nama u Vavilon i poruči: Dugo će trajati; gradite kuće i sedite u njima, i sadite vrtove i jedite rod njihov.
29 I Sofonija sveštenik pročita tu knjigu pred prorokom Jeremijom.
30 I dođe reč Gospodnja Jeremiji govoreći:

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 29:7 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XIX, Chapters 24–27)

    … when predicting the captivity that was to befall the ancient people of God, and giving them the divine command to go obediently to Babylonia, and thus serve their God, counselled them also to pray for Babylonia, saying, "In the peace thereof shall ye have peace," --the temporal peace which the good and the wicked together enjoy.
