1 Načelniku pevačkom. Uz žice. Na osam žica. Psalam Davidov. Gospode! Nemoj me pokarati u jarosti svojoj, niti me u gnevu svom nakaziti.
1 For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am faint. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3 I duša se moja vrlo uzdrhtala. A Ti, Gospode, dokle ćeš.
3 My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long?
4 Obrati se, Gospode, izbavi dušu moju, pomozi mi radi milosti svoje.
4 Vuelve, oh Jehová, libra mi alma; sálvame por tu misericordia.
4 Return, Yahweh. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake.
5 Jer mrtvi ne spominju Tebe; u grobu ko će Te slaviti?
5 For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for Yahweh has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 Ču Gospod molbu moju, Gospod molitvu moju primi.
9 Jehová ha oído mi ruego; ha recibido Jehová mi oración.
9 Yahweh has heard my supplication. Yahweh accepts my prayer.
10 Nek se postide i prepadnu svi neprijatelji moji, neka se povrate i postide odmah.
10 May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed. They shall turn back, they shall be disgraced suddenly.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm VI)

"Of the eighth," seems here obscure. For the rest of this title is more clear. Now it has seemed to some to intimate the day of judgment, that is, the time of the coming of our Lord, when He will come to judge the quick and dead.
