PT1904 Patriarchal Text 1904 (accented, eBible edition)
1 Dužni smo, dakle, mi jaki slabosti slabih nositi, i ne sebi ugađati.
6 da jednodušno jednim ustima slavite Boga i Oca Gospoda našeg Isusa Hrista.
10 I opet govori: Veselite se neznabošci s narodom Njegovim.
11 I opet: Hvalite Gospoda svi neznabošci, i slavite Ga svi narodi.
13 A Bog nade da ispuni vas svake radosti i mira u veri, da imate izobilje u nadi silom Duha Svetog.
14 A ja sam i sam uveren za vas, braćo, da ste i vi sami puni blagodati, napunjeni svakog razuma, da možete druge naučiti.
16 da budem sluga Isusa Hrista u neznabošcima, da služim jevanđelju Božijem, da budu neznabošci prinos povoljan i osvećen Duhom Svetim.
17 Imam, dakle, hvalu u Hristu Isusu kod Boga.
20 I tako se trudih da propovedim jevanđelje ne gde se spominjaše Hristos, da na tuđoj zakopini ne zidam;
22 To me zadrža mnogo puta da ne dođem k vama.
24 ako pođem u Španjolsku, doći ću vam; jer se nadam da ću tuda proći i vas videti, i vi ćete me otpratiti onamo kad se najpre nekoliko nasitim vas.
25 A sad idem u Jerusalim služeći svetima.
27 Oni učiniše dragovoljno, a i dužni su im; jer kad neznabošci dobiše deo u njihovim duhovnim imanjima, dužni su i oni njima u telesnim poslužiti.
28 Kad ovo, dakle, svršim, i ovaj im plod zapečatim, poći ću preko vas u Španjolsku.
29 A znam da kad dođem k vama, doći ću s obilnim blagoslovom jevanđelja Hristovog.
30 Ali vas molim, braćo, zaradi Gospoda našeg Isusa Hrista, i zaradi ljubavi Duha, pomozite mi u molitvama za me k Bogu;
31 da se izbavim od onih koji se protive u Judeji, i da služba moja za Jerusalim bude po volji svetima;
33 A Bog mira sa svima vama. Amin.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 15:8 John Chrysostom, Homilies on Romans (Homily XXVIII)

Again, he is speaking of Christ's concern for us, still holding to the same topic, and showing what great things He hath done for us, and how "He pleased not Himself." (Rom. xv. 3.) And besides this, there is another point which he makes good, that those of the Gentiles are debtors to a larger amount unto God.

  2. Quotes verse 15:1 Augustine of Hippo, Sermons on Selected Lessons of the New Testament (Sermon XXVI)

because the Church of Christ hath both strong and weak ones; and cannot be without either strong or weak; whence the Apostle Paul says, "Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak." In that Peter said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God," he represents the strong: but in that he totters, …

  3. Quotes verse 15:12 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily VII)

… which was produced after the ascension, manifests His equality with the Father; thus saying, "The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit Thou on my right hand." And Isaiah too saith, "He that riseth up to rule over the Gentiles, in Him shall the Gentiles trust." But how saith he that Bethlehem is "not the least among the princes of Judah?" …

  4. Quotes verse 15:12 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture XII)

Receive thou therefore Him that was born of David, believing the prophecy which saith, And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, and He that shall rise to rule over the Gentiles: in Him shall the Gentiles trust.

  5. Quotes verse 15:29 Basil of Caesarea, On the Holy Spirit (Chapter XV)

… adoption of sons, our liberty to call God our Father, our being made partakers of the grace of Christ, our being called children of light, our sharing in eternal glory, and, in a word, our being brought into a state of all "fulness of blessing," both in this world and in the world to come, of all the good gifts …
