Synodal Russian Synodal Bible (1876)
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
2 Porque os doy buena enseñanza; no desamparéis mi ley.
4 Y él me enseñaba, y me decía: Mantenga tu corazón mis razones, guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás:
5 Adquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia; no te olvides ni te apartes de las razones de mi boca;
6 No la dejes, y ella te guardará; ámala, y te conservará.
8 Высоко цени ее, и она возвысит тебя; она прославит тебя, если ты прилепишься к ней;
11 Por el camino de la sabiduría te he encaminado, y por veredas derechas te he hecho andar.
14 Не вступай на стезю нечестивых и не ходи по пути злых;
15 оставь его, не ходи по нему, уклонись от него и пройди мимо;
16 потому что они не заснут, если не сделают зла; пропадает сон у них, если они не доведут кого до падения;
20 Сын мой! словам моим внимай, и к речам моим приклони ухо твое;
20 Hijo mío, está atento á mis palabras; inclina tu oído á mis razones.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 4:25 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture II)

    It is not an enemy, O man, that assails thee from without, but an evil shoot growing up out of thyself. Look right on with thine eyes, and there is no lust.
