Synodal Russian Synodal Bible (1876)
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
2 Она становится на возвышенных местах, при дороге, на распутиях;
2 En los altos cabezos, junto al camino, á las encrucijadas de las veredas se para;
5 Entended, simples, discreción; y vosotros, locos, entrad en cordura.
6 Слушайте, потому что я буду говорить важное, и изречение уст моих - правда;
7 ибо истину произнесет язык мой, и нечестие - мерзость для уст моих;
8 все слова уст моих справедливы; нет в них коварства и лукавства;
10 Примите учение мое, а не серебро; лучше знание, нежели отборное золото;
15 Мною цари царствуют и повелители узаконяют правду;
17 Любящих меня я люблю, и ищущие меня найдут меня;
18 богатство и слава у меня, сокровище непогибающее и правда;
20 Por vereda de justicia guiaré, por en medio de sendas de juicio;
22 Господь имел меня началом пути Своего, прежде созданий Своих, искони;
27 Cuando formaba los cielos, allí estaba yo; cuando señalaba por compás la sobrefaz del abismo;
28 Cuando afirmaba los cielos arriba, cuando afirmaba las fuentes del abismo;
29 Cuando ponía á la mar su estatuto, y á las aguas, que no pasasen su mandamiento; cuando establecía los fundamentos de la tierra;
35 потому что, кто нашел меня, тот нашел жизнь, и получит благодать от Господа;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 8:22–25 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book IV, Chapter XVIII)

    … in His work: He set me up from everlasting, in the beginning, before He made the earth, before He established the depths, and before the fountains of waters gushed forth; before the mountains were made strong, and before all the hills, He brought me forth." And again: "When He prepared the heaven, I was with Him, and when He established …

  4. Quotes verse 8:22 John of Damascus, An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith (Book IV, Chapters XVII–XVIII)

    But others, though future, are put in the past tense, as, for instance, This is our God: Therefore He was seen upon the earth and dwelt among men, and The Lord created me in the beginning of His ways for His works, and Wherefore God, thy God, anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows, and such …
