VUL Clementine Vulgate
WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon)
1 Canticum graduum. [Beati omnes qui timent Dominum, qui ambulant in viis ejus.
128:1 A Song of Ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh, who walks in his ways.
2 Labores manuum tuarum quia manducabis: beatus es, et bene tibi erit.
128:2 For you will eat the labor of your hands. You will be happy, and it will be well with you.
3 Uxor tua sicut vitis abundans in lateribus domus tuæ; filii tui sicut novellæ olivarum in circuitu mensæ tuæ.
128:3 Your wife will be as a fruitful vine in the innermost parts of your house, your children like olive shoots around your table.
4 Ecce sic benedicetur homo qui timet Dominum.
128:4 Behold, this is how the man who fears Yahweh is blessed.
5 Benedicat tibi Dominus ex Sion, et videas bona Jerusalem omnibus diebus vitæ tuæ.
128:5 May Yahweh bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
6 Et videas filios filiorum tuorum: pacem super Israël.]
128:6 Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations). Verse numbers below follow the Hebrew/English numbering: 128.

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).
