Notes on this text (2)

1 In finem. Psalmus David. [Judica me, Domine, quoniam ego in innocentia mea ingressus sum, et in Domino sperans non infirmabor. 2 Proba me, Domine, et tenta me; ure renes meos et cor meum. 12 Pes meus stetit in directo; in ecclesiis benedicam te, Domine.]

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations). Verse numbers below follow the Hebrew/English numbering: 26.

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

I do not contend in judgment with Thee, who art the Truth; and I would not deceive myself, lest my iniquity lie against itself.
