Webster Noah Webster's Bible (1833) WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 Likewise, ye wives, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the deportment of the wives; 1 ASIMISMO vosotras, mujeres, [sed] sujetas á vuestros maridos; para que también los que no creen á la palabra, sean ganados sin palabra por la conversación de sus mujeres,
1 In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word,
2 While they behold your chaste manner of life [coupled] with fear.
2 seeing your pure behavior in fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing gold, or of putting on apparel; 3 El adorno de las cuales no sea exterior con encrespamiento del cabello, y atavío de oro, ni en compostura de ropas;
3 Let your beauty come not from the outward adorning of braiding your hair, and of wearing gold ornaments or of putting on fine clothing,
4 But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
4 but from the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight.
5 For after this manner in former times the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands: 5 Porque así también se ataviaban en el tiempo antiguo aquellas santas mujeres que esperaban en Dios, siendo sujetas á sus maridos:
5 For this is how in the past the holy women who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands.
6 Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
6 So Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are if you do well and are not put in fear by any terror.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with [them] according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
7 You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
8 Finally, [be ye] all of one mind, having compassion one of another; love as brethren, [be] pitiful, [be] courteous: 8 Y finalmente, sed todos de un mismo corazón, compasivos, amándoos fraternalmente, misericordiosos, amigables;
8 Finally, all of you be like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous,
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but on the contrary, blessing; knowing that ye are called to this, that ye should inherit a blessing.
9 not rendering evil for evil or insult for insult; but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 10 Porque el que quiere amar la vida, y ver días buenos, refrene su lengua de mal, y sus labios no hablen engaño;
10 For, “He who would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 Let him shun evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it. 11 Apártase del mal, y haga bien; busque la paz, y sígala.
11 Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord [are] over the righteous, and his ears [are open] to their prayers: but the face of the Lord [is] against them that do evil.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
13 And who [is] he that will harm you, if ye are followers of that which is good?
13 Now who will harm you if you become imitators of that which is good?
14 But if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy [are ye] : and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 14 Mas también si alguna cosa padecéis por hacer bien, [sois] bienaventurados. Por tanto, no temáis por el temor de ellos, ni seáis turbados;
14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled.”
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear,
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evil-doers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good deportment in Christ.
16 having a good conscience. Thus, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ.
17 For [it is] better, if the will of God is so, that ye suffer for well-doing, than for evil-doing.
17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, that you suffer for doing what is right than for doing evil.
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit: 18 Porque también Cristo padeció una vez por los pecados, el justo por los injustos, para llevarnos á Dios, siendo á la verdad muerto en la carne, pero vivificado en espíritu;
18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit,
19 By which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison; 19 En el cual también fué y predicó á los espíritus encarcelados;
19 in whom he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,
20 Who formerly were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was preparing, in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.
20 who before were disobedient when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ship was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
21 The like figure to which, [even] baptism, doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 21 A la figura de la cual el bautismo que ahora corresponde nos salva (no quitando las inmundicias de la carne, sino [como] demanda de una buena conciencia delante de Dios,) por la resurrección de Jesucristo:
21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you—not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels, and authorities, and powers being made subject to him.
22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.
