1 Por esta causa yo, Pablo, prisionero de Cristo Jesús por ustedes los gentiles,
1 For this cause I, Paul, am the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles,
2 si es que han oído de la administración de la gracia de Dios que me fue dada para ustedes.
2 if it is so that you have heard of the administration of that grace of God which was given me toward you,
3 Por revelación se me dio a conocer el misterio, como antes les escribí brevemente.
3 how that by revelation the mystery was made known to me, as I wrote before in few words,
4 Al leerlo, ustedes pueden entender mi conocimiento del misterio de Cristo.
4 by which, when you read, you can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ,
5 En otras generaciones este misterio no fue dado a conocer a los hijos de los hombres como ahora ha sido revelado por el Espíritu a sus santos apóstoles y profetas.
5 which in other generations was not made known to the children of men, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit,
6 El misterio es este: que los gentiles son coherederos, miembros del mismo cuerpo y participantes de la misma promesa en Cristo Jesús por medio del evangelio.
6 that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of his promise in Christ Jesus through the Good News,
7 De este evangelio fui hecho servidor por el don de la gracia de Dios, que me fue dado según la acción de su poder.
7 of which I was made a servant according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power.
8 A mí, que soy menos que el más pequeño de todos los santos, me fue dada esta gracia: anunciar entre los gentiles las inescrutables riquezas de Cristo,
8 To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
9 y mostrar a todos cuál es la administración del misterio que desde los siglos ha estado escondido en Dios, quien creó todas las cosas.
9 and to make all men see what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ,
10 Así, ahora, por medio de la iglesia, la multiforme sabiduría de Dios es dada a conocer a los principados y autoridades en los lugares celestiales.
10 to the intent that now through the assembly the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places,
11 Esto fue conforme al propósito eterno que Dios realizó en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.
11 according to the eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 En él tenemos libertad y acceso a Dios con confianza por medio de la fe en Cristo.
12 In him we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.
13 Por eso les pido que no se desanimen por mis sufrimientos a favor de ustedes, porque son gloria para ustedes.
13 Therefore I ask that you may not lose heart at my troubles for you, which are your glory.
14 Por esta causa doblo mis rodillas ante el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo,
14 For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 de quien toma nombre toda familia en los cielos y en la tierra.
15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
16 Pido que, conforme a las riquezas de su gloria, Dios los fortalezca con poder en el hombre interior por medio de su Espíritu,
16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person,
17 para que Cristo habite por la fe en sus corazones, y para que ustedes, arraigados y cimentados en amor,
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 puedan comprender con todos los santos cuál es la anchura, la longitud, la profundidad y la altura,
18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth,
19 y conocer el amor de Cristo, que supera todo conocimiento, para que sean llenos de toda la plenitud de Dios.
19 and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Y a aquel que puede hacer muchísimo más de todo lo que pedimos o pensamos, según el poder que actúa en nosotros,
20 Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
21 a él sea la gloria en la iglesia y en Cristo Jesús, por todas las generaciones, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
21 to him be the glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

«Comentario» es el comienzo de una homilía o exposición sobre este capítulo (homilías de san Juan Crisóstomo; tratados, sermones y comentarios a los Salmos de san Agustín). «Cita» es una frase en la que las notas de la propia edición identifican la cita de un versículo de este capítulo; solo se conserva si el texto coincide con el versículo. Solo se usan obras de autoría segura. Los Salmos siguen la numeración hebrea (Agustín usa la de los Setenta: su Salmo 50 es aquí el 51).
