1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; in the council of the just: and in the congregation.
111:1 Praise Yah! I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart, in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the Lord: sought out according to all his wills.
111:2 Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
3 His work is praise and magnificence: and his justice continueth for ever and ever.
111:3 His work is honor and majesty. His righteousness endures forever.
4 He hath made a remembrance of his wonderful works, being a merciful and gracious Lord:
111:4 He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. Yahweh is gracious and merciful.
5 He hath given food to them that fear him. He will be mindful for ever of his covenant:
111:5 He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
6 He will shew forth to his people the power of his works.
111:6 He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 That he may give them the inheritance of the Gentiles: the works of his hands are truth and judgment.
111:7 The works of his hands are truth and justice. All his precepts are sure.
8 All his commandments are faithful: confirmed for ever and ever, made in truth and equity.
111:8 They are established forever and ever. They are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He hath sent redemption to his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and terrible is his name:
111:9 He has sent redemption to his people. He has ordained his covenant forever. His name is holy and awesome!
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. A good understanding to all that do it: his praise continueth for ever and ever.
111:10 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm CX)

This Psalm is one of those promises, surely and openly prophesying our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; so that we are utterly unable to doubt that Christ is announced in this Psalm, since we are now Christians, and believe the Gospel.

  2. Cita 111:2 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XIV, Chapters 27–28)

The sins of men and angels do nothing to impede the "great works of the Lord which accomplish His will." For He who by His providence and omnipotence distributes to every one his own portion, is able to make good use not only of the good, but also of the wicked.

  3. Cita 111:7 Gregory of Nazianzus, Theological Orations (The Fourth Theological Oration, Which is the Second Concerning the Son)

Now, the Works of His Hands are verity and judgment; for whose sake He was anointed with Godhead; for this anointing is of the Manhood; but the "He begetteth Me" is not connected with a cause; or it is for you to shew the adjunct.

  4. Cita 111:10 Augustine of Hippo, On Christian Doctrine (Book II, Chapters 5–6)

For the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. From that beginning, then, till we reach wisdom itself, our way is by the steps now described.

  5. Cita 111:10 Augustine of Hippo, Our Lord's Sermon on the Mount (Book I)

Nor ought blessedness to begin at any other point whatever, if indeed it is to attain unto the highest wisdom; "but the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;" for, on the other hand also, "pride" is entitled "the beginning of all sin." Let the proud, therefore, seek after and love the kingdoms of the earth; but "blessed …
