1 A SONG OF THE ASCENTS. I have called to YHWH in my distress, || And He answers me.
1 Cántico gradual. A JEHOVÁ llamé estando en angustia, y él me respondió.
1 A Song of Ascents. In my distress, I cried to Yahweh. He answered me.
2 O YHWH, deliver my soul from a lying lip, || From a deceitful tongue!
2 Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
3 What does He give to you? And what does He add to you? O deceitful tongue!
3 ¿Qué te dará, ó qué te aprovechará, oh lengua engañosa?
3 What will be given to you, and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of a mighty one, with coals of broom trees.
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5 Woe to me, for I have inhabited Mesech, || I have dwelt with tents of Kedar.
5 Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6 My soul has dwelt too much with him who is hating peace.
6 My soul has had her dwelling too long with him who hates peace.
7 I—peace, and when I speak they [are] for war!
7 I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm CXIX)

From its commencement, dearly beloved, doth this great Psalm exhort us unto bliss, which there is no one who desireth not....And therefore this is the lesson which he teacheth, who saith, "Blessed are those that are undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord" (ver. 1).

  2. Cita 120:3 Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (Book IX)

For we had determined among ourselves not to let it get abroad to any; although Thou hadst given to us, ascending from the valley of tears, and singing the song of degrees, "sharp arrows," and destroying coals, against the "deceitful tongue," which in giving counsel opposes, and in showing love consumes, as it is wont to do with its food.
