CPDV Catholic Public Domain Version WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 Then, after these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee. For he was not willing to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
1 After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Now the feast day of the Jews, the Feast of Tabernacles, was near.
2 Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.
3 And his brothers said to him: “Move away from here and go into Judea, so that your disciples there may also see your works that you do. 3 Y dijéronle sus hermanos: Pásate de aquí, y vete á Judea, para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces.
3 His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.
4 Of course, no one does anything in secret, but he himself seeks to be in the public view. Since you do these things, manifest yourself to the world.” 4 Que ninguno que procura ser claro, hace algo en oculto. Si estas cosas haces, manifiéstate al mundo.
4 For no one does anything in secret while he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”
5 For neither did his brothers believe in him.
5 For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.
6 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “My time has not yet come; but your time is always at hand. 6 Díceles entonces Jesús: Mi tiempo aun no ha venido; mas vuestro tiempo siempre está presto.
6 Jesus therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
7 The world cannot hate you. But it hates me, because I offer testimony about it, that its works are evil.
7 The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.
8 You may go up to this feast day. But I am not going up to this feast day, because my time has not yet been fulfilled.” 8 Vosotros subid á esta fiesta; yo no subo aún á esta fiesta, porque mi tiempo aun no es cumplido.
8 You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”
9 When he had said these things, he himself remained in Galilee. 9 Y habiéndoles dicho esto, quedóse en Galilea.
9 Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.
10 But after his brothers went up, then he also went up to the feast day, not openly, but as if in secret.
10 But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.
11 Therefore, the Jews were seeking him on the feast day, and they were saying, “Where is he?” 11 Y buscábanle los Judíos en la fiesta, y decían: ¿Dónde está aquél?
11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”
12 And there was much murmuring in the crowd concerning him. For certain ones were saying, “He is good.” But others were saying, “No, for he seduces the crowds.” 12 Y había grande murmullo de él entre la gente: porque unos decían: Bueno es; y otros decían: No, antes engaña á las gentes.
12 There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”
13 Yet no one was speaking openly about him, out of fear of the Jews.
13 Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14 Then, about the middle of the feast, Jesus ascended into the temple, and he was teaching.
14 But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
15 And the Jews wondered, saying: “How does this one know letters, though he has not been taught?” 15 Y maravillábanse los Judíos, diciendo: ¿Cómo sabe éste letras, no habiendo aprendido?
15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”
16 Jesus responded to them and said: “My doctrine is not of me, but of him who sent me. 16 Respondióles Jesús, y dijo: Mi doctrina no es mía, sino de aquél que me envió.
16 Jesus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
17 If anyone has chosen to do his will, then he will realize, about the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I am speaking from myself.
17 If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God or if I am speaking from myself.
18 Whoever speaks from himself seeks his own glory. But whoever seeks the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and injustice is not in him.
18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19 Did not Moses give you the law? And yet not one among you keeps the law!
19 Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”
20 Why are you seeking to kill me?” The crowd responded and said: “You must have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?” 20 Respondió la gente, y dijo: Demonio tienes: ¿quién te procura matar?
20 The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”
21 Jesus responded and said to them: “One work have I done, and you all wonder. 21 Jesús respondió, y díjoles: Una obra hice, y todos os maravilláis.
21 Jesus answered them, “I did one work and you all marvel because of it.
22 For Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers) and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.
22 Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.
23 If a man can receive circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you indignant toward me, because I have made a man whole on the Sabbath?
23 If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?
24 Do not judge according to appearances, but instead judge a just judgment.” 24 No juzguéis según lo que parece, mas juzgad justo juicio.
24 Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”
25 Therefore, some of those from Jerusalem said: “Is he not the one whom they are seeking to kill? 25 Decían entonces unos de los de Jerusalem: ¿No es éste al que buscan para matarlo?
25 Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?
26 And behold, he is speaking openly, and they say nothing to him. Could the leaders have decided that it is true this one is the Christ?
26 Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?
27 But we know him and where he is from. And when the Christ has arrived, no one will know where he is from.” 27 Mas éste, sabemos de dónde es: y cuando viniere el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde sea.
27 However, we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”
28 Therefore, Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying: “You know me, and you also know where I am from. And I have not arrived of myself, but he who sent me is true, and him you do not know. 28 Entonces clamaba Jesús en el templo, enseñando y diciendo: Y á mí me conocéis, y sabéis de dónde soy; y no he venido de mí mismo; mas el que me envió es verdadero, al cual vosotros no conocéis.
28 Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.
29 I know him. For I am from him, and he has sent me.” 29 Yo le conozco, porque de él soy, y él me envió.
29 I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
30 Therefore, they were seeking to apprehend him, and yet no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.
30 They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
31 But many among the crowd believed in him, and they were saying, “When the Christ arrives, will he perform more signs than this man does?” 31 Y muchos del pueblo creyeron en él, y decían: El Cristo, cuando viniere, ¿hará más señales que las que éste hace?
31 But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him. And the leaders and the Pharisees sent attendants to apprehend him.
32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.
33 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, I am still with you, and then I am going to him who sent me. 33 Y Jesús dijo: Aun un poco de tiempo estaré con vosotros, é iré al que me envió.
33 Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.
34 You shall seek me, and you will not find me. And where I am, you are not able to go.” 34 Me buscaréis, y no me hallaréis; y donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis venir.
34 You will seek me and won’t find me. You can’t come where I am.”
35 And so the Jews said among themselves: “Where is this place to which he will go, such that we will not find him? Will he go to those dispersed among the Gentiles and teach the Gentiles? 35 Entonces los Judíos dijeron entre sí: ¿A dónde se ha de ir éste que no le hallemos? ¿Se ha de ir á los esparcidos entre los Griegos, y á enseñar á los Griegos?
35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?
36 What is this word that he spoke, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me; and where I am, you are not able to go?’
36 What is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me;’ and ‘Where I am, you can’t come’?”
37 Then, on the last great day of the feast, Jesus was standing and crying out, saying: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink: 37 Mas en el postrer día grande de la fiesta, Jesús se ponía en pie y clamaba, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, venga á mí y beba.
37 Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!
38 whoever believes in me, just as Scripture says, ‘From his chest shall flow rivers of living water.’
38 He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”
39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which those who believe in him would soon be receiving. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
39 But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.
40 Therefore, some from that crowd, when they had heard these words of his, were saying, “This one truly is the Prophet.” 40 Entonces algunos de la multitud, oyendo este dicho, decían: Verdaderamente éste es el profeta.
40 Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”
41 Others were saying, “He is the Christ.” Yet certain ones were saying: “Does the Christ come from Galilee? 41 Otros decían: Este es el Cristo. Algunos empero decían: ¿De Galilea ha de venir el Cristo?
41 Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?
42 Does Scripture not say that the Christ comes from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?” 42 ¿No dice la Escritura, que de la simiente de David, y de la aldea de Bethlehem, de donde era David, vendrá el Cristo?
42 Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
43 And so there arose a dissension among the multitude because of him.
43 So a division arose in the multitude because of him.
44 Now certain ones among them wanted to apprehend him, but no one laid hands upon him.
44 Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.
45 Therefore, the attendants went to the high priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them, “Why have you not brought him?” 45 Y los ministriles vinieron á los principales sacerdotes y á los Fariseos; y ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis?
45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”
46 The attendants responded, “Never has a man spoken like this man.” 46 Los ministriles respondieron: Nunca ha hablado hombre así como este hombre.
46 The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”
47 And so the Pharisees answered them: “Have you also been seduced? 47 Entonces los Fariseos les respondieron: ¿Estáis también vosotros engañados?
47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?
48 Have any of the leaders believed in him, or any of the Pharisees?
48 Have any of the rulers or any of the Pharisees believed in him?
49 But this crowd, which does not know the law, they are accursed.” 49 Mas estos comunales que no saben la ley, malditos son.
49 But this multitude that doesn’t know the law is cursed.”
50 Nicodemus, the one who came to him by night and who was one of them, said to them, 50 Díceles Nicodemo (el que vino á él de noche, el cual era uno de ellos):
50 Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,
51 “Does our law judge a man, unless it has first heard him and has known what he has done?” 51 ¿Juzga nuestra ley á hombre, si primero no oyere de él, y entendiere lo que ha hecho?
51 “Does our law judge a man unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”
52 They responded and said to him: “Are you also a Galilean? Study the Scriptures, and see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee.” 52 Respondieron y dijéronle: ¿Eres tú también Galileo?
52 They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”
53◆ And each one returned to his own house. 53 Y fuése cada uno á su casa.
53 Everyone went to his own house,
