CPDV Catholic Public Domain Version WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 And Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan. And he was urged by the Spirit into the wilderness 1 Y JESÚS, lleno del Espíritu Santo, volvió del Jordán, y fué llevado por el Espíritu al desierto
1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
2 for forty days, and he was tested by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days. And when they were completed, he was hungry.
2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.
3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, speak to this stone, so that it may be made into bread.” 3 Entonces el diablo le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di á esta piedra que se haga pan.
3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ” 4 Y Jesús respondiéndole, dijo: Escrito está: Que no con pan solo vivirá el hombre, mas con toda palabra de Dios.
4 Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”
5 And the devil led him onto a high mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 5 Y le llevó el diablo á un alto monte, y le mostró en un momento de tiempo todos los reinos de la tierra.
5 The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 and he said to him: “To you, I will give all this power, and its glory. For they have been handed over to me, and I give them to whomever I wish. 6 Y le dijo el diablo: A ti te daré toda esta potestad, y la gloria de ellos; porque á mí es entregada, y á quien quiero la doy:
6 The devil said to him, “I will give you all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I want.
7 Therefore, if you will worship before me, all will be yours.” 7 Pues si tú adorares delante de mí, serán todos tuyos.
7 If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours.”
8 And in response, Jesus said to him: “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him alone.’ ” 8 Y respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Vete de mí, Satanás, porque escrito está: A tu Señor Dios adorarás, y á él solo servirás.
8 Jesus answered him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’”
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and he set him on the parapet of the temple, and he said to him: “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here. 9 Y le llevó á Jerusalem, y púsole sobre las almenas del templo, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate de aquí abajo:
9 He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here,
10 For it is written that he has given his Angels charge over you, so that they may guard you, 10 Porque escrito está: Que á sus ángeles mandará de ti, que te guarden;
10 for it is written, ‘He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;’
11 and so that they may take you into their hands, lest perhaps you may hurt your foot against a stone.” 11 Y en las manos te llevarán, porque no dañes tu pie en piedra.
11 and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.’”
12 And in response, Jesus said to him, “It is said: ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ” 12 Y respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Dicho está: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.
12 Jesus answering, said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
13 And when all the temptation was completed, the devil withdrew from him, until a time.
13 When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.
14 And Jesus returned, in the power of the Spirit, into Galilee. And his fame spread throughout the entire region.
14 Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, and he was magnified by everyone.
15 He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
16 And he went to Nazareth, where he had been raised. And he entered into the synagogue, according to his custom, on the Sabbath day. And he rose up to read.
16 He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And as he unrolled the book, he found the place where it was written: 17 Y fuéle dado el libro del profeta Isaías; y como abrió el libro, halló el lugar donde estaba escrito:
17 The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written,
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because of this, he has anointed me. He has sent me to evangelize the poor, to heal the contrite of heart, 18 El Espíritu del Señor es sobre mí, por cuanto me ha ungido para dar buenas nuevas á los pobres: me ha enviado para sanar á los quebrantados de corazón; para pregonar á los cautivos libertad, y á los ciegos vista; para poner en libertad á los quebrantados:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,
19 to preach forgiveness to captives and sight to the blind, to release the broken into forgiveness, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of retribution.” 19 Para predicar el año agradable del Señor.
19 and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20 And when he had rolled up the book, he returned it to the minister, and he sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.
20 He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 Then he began to say to them, “On this day, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” 21 Y comenzó á decirles: Hoy se ha cumplido esta Escritura en vuestros oídos.
21 He began to tell them, “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 And everyone gave testimony to him. And they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth. And they said, “Is this not the son of Joseph?” 22 Y todos le daban testimonio, y estaban maravillados de las palabras de gracia que salían de su boca, y decían: ¿No es éste el hijo de José?
22 All testified about him and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
23 And he said to them: “Certainly, you will recite to me this saying, ‘Physician, heal yourself.’ The many great things that we have heard were done in Capernaum, do here also in your own country.” 23 Y les dijo: Sin duda me diréis este refrán: Médico, cúrate á ti mismo: de tantas cosas que hemos oído haber sido hechas en Capernaum, haz también aquí en tu tierra.
23 He said to them, “Doubtless you will tell me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.’”
24 Then he said: “Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country. 24 Y dijo: De cierto os digo, que ningún profeta es acepto en su tierra.
24 He said, “Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.
25 In truth, I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elijah in Israel, when the heavens were closed for three years and six months, when a great famine had occurred throughout the entire land. 25 Mas en verdad os digo, [que] muchas viudas había en Israel en los días de Elías, cuando el cielo fué cerrado por tres años y seis meses, que hubo una grande hambre en toda la tierra;
25 But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
26 And to none of these was Elijah sent, except to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
26 Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
27 And there were many lepers in Israel under the prophet Elisha. And none of these was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.” 27 Y muchos leprosos había en Israel en tiempo del profeta Eliseo; mas ninguno de ellos fué limpio, sino Naamán el Siro.
27 There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian.”
28 And all those in the synagogue, upon hearing these things, were filled with anger. 28 Entonces todos en la sinagoga fueron llenos de ira, oyendo estas cosas;
28 They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue as they heard these things.
29 And they rose up and drove him beyond the city. And they brought him all the way to the edge of the mount, upon which their city had been built, so that they might throw him down violently.
29 They rose up, threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff.
30 But passing through their midst, he went away.
30 But he, passing through the middle of them, went his way.
31 And he descended to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And there he taught them on the Sabbaths. 31 Y descendió á Capernaum, ciudad de Galilea. Y los enseñaba en los sábados.
31 He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day,
32 And they were astonished at his doctrine, for his word was spoken with authority.
32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.
33 And in the synagogue, there was a man who had an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 33 Y estaba en la sinagoga un hombre que tenía un espíritu de un demonio inmundo, el cual exclamó á gran voz,
33 In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice,
34 saying: “Let us alone. What are we to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God.” 34 Diciendo: Déjanos, ¿qué tenemos contigo, Jesús Nazareno? ¿has venido á destruirnos?
34 saying, “Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God!”
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and depart from him.” And when the demon had thrown him into their midst, he departed from him, and he no longer harmed him.
35 Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” When the demon had thrown him down in the middle of them, he came out of him, having done him no harm.
36 And fear fell over them all. And they discussed this among themselves, saying: “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they depart.” 36 Y hubo espanto en todos, y hablaban unos á otros, diciendo: ¿Qué palabra es ésta, que con autoridad y potencia manda á los espíritus inmundos, y salen?
36 Amazement came on all and they spoke together, one with another, saying, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
37 And his fame spread to every place in the region.
37 News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.
38 Then Jesus, rising up from the synagogue, entered into the house of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in the grip of a severe fever. And they petitioned him on her behalf.
38 He rose up from the synagogue and entered into Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him to help her.
39 And standing over her, he commanded the fever, and it left her. And promptly rising up, she ministered to them.
39 He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them.
40 Then, when the sun had set, all those who had anyone afflicted with various diseases brought them to him. Then, laying his hands on each one of them, he cured them.
40 When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 Now demons departed from many of them, crying out and saying, “You are the son of God.” And rebuking them, he would not permit them to speak. For they knew him to be the Christ.
41 Demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 Then, when it was daytime, going out, he went to a deserted place. And the crowds sought him, and they went all the way to him. And they detained him, so that he would not depart from them.
42 When it was day, he departed and went into an uninhabited place and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn’t go away from them.
43 And he said to them, “I must also preach the kingdom of God to other cities, because it was for this reason that I was sent.” 43 Mas él les dijo: Que también á otras ciudades es necesario que anuncie el evangelio del reino de Dios; porque para esto soy enviado.
43 But he said to them, “I must preach the good news of God’s Kingdom to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent.”
44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee. 44 Y predicaba en las sinagogas de Galilea.
44 He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
