2 and he said to them: “Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately upon entering there, you will find a colt tied, on which no man has yet sat. Release him and bring him. 2 and said to them, “Go your way into the village that is opposite you. Immediately as you enter into it, you will find a young donkey tied, on which no one has sat. Untie him and bring him.
3 And if anyone will say to you: ‘What are you doing?’ Say that the Lord has need of him. And he will immediately send him here.” 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs him;’ and immediately he will send him back here.”
4 And going out, they found the colt tied before the outer gate, at the meeting of two ways. And they untied him. 4 They went away, and found a young donkey tied at the door outside in the open street, and they untied him.
5 And some of those who were standing there said to them, “What are you doing by releasing the colt?” 5 Some of those who stood there asked them, “What are you doing, untying the young donkey?”
5 καί τινες τῶν ἐκεῖ ἑστηκότων ἔλεγον αὐτοῖς· τί ποιεῖτε λύοντες τὸν πῶλον;
6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had instructed them. And they permitted them. 6 They said to them just as Jesus had said, and they let them go.
7 And they led the colt to Jesus. And they placed their garments on it; and he sat upon it. 7 They brought the young donkey to Jesus and threw their garments on it, and Jesus sat on it.
8 Then many spread their garments along the way; but others cut down leafy branches from trees and scattered them on the way. 8 Many spread their garments on the way, and others were cutting down branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.
9 And those who went ahead, and those who followed, cried out saying: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who has arrived in the name of the Lord. 9 Those who went in front and those who followed cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
10 Blessed is the advent of the kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!” 10 Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
11 And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple. And having looked around at everything, since it was now the evening hour, he went out to Bethania with the twelve. 11 Jesus entered into the temple in Jerusalem. When he had looked around at everything, it being now evening, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
12 And the next day, as they were departing from Bethania, he was hungry. 12 The next day, when they had come out from Bethany, he was hungry.
13 And when he had seen a fig tree with leaves in the distance, he went to it, in case he might find something on it. And when he had gone to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the season for figs. 13 Seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came to see if perhaps he might find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
14 And in response, he said to it, “From now on and forever, may no one eat fruit from you again!” And his disciples heard this. 14 Jesus told it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” and his disciples heard it.
15 And they went to Jerusalem. And when he had entered into the temple, he began to cast out the sellers and the buyers in the temple. And he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the chairs of the vendors of doves. 15 They came to Jerusalem, and Jesus entered into the temple and began to throw out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and overthrew the money changers’ tables and the seats of those who sold the doves.
16 And he would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple. 16 He would not allow anyone to carry a container through the temple.
17 And he taught them, saying: “Is it not written: ‘For my house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations?’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.” 17 He taught, saying to them, “Isn’t it written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers!”
18 And when the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, had heard this, they sought a means by which they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the entire multitude was in admiration over his doctrine. 18 The chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him. For they feared him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.
19 And when evening had arrived, he departed from the city. 19 When evening came, he went out of the city.
20 And when they passed by in the morning, they saw that the fig tree had dried up from the roots. 20 As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away from the roots.
21 And Peter, remembering, said to him, “Master, behold, the fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 21 Peter, remembering, said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered away.”
22 And in response, Jesus said to them: “Have the faith of God. 22 Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.
23 Amen I say to you, that whoever will say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and who will not have hesitated in his heart, but will have believed: then whatever he has said be done, it shall be done for him. 23 For most certainly I tell you, whoever may tell this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and doesn’t doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is happening, he shall have whatever he says.
24 For this reason, I say to you, all things whatsoever that you ask for when praying: believe that you will receive them, and they will happen for you. 24 Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.
25 And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your sins. 25 Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions.
26 But if you will not forgive, neither will your Father, who is in heaven, forgive you your sins.” 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”
27 And they went again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the elders approached him. 27 They came again to Jerusalem, and as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to him,
28 And they said to him: “By what authority do you do these things? And who has given you this authority, so that you would do these things?” 28 and they began saying to him, “By what authority do you do these things? Or who gave you this authority to do these things?”
28 καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς; ἢ τίς σοι ἔδωκε τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην ἵνα ταῦτα ποιῇς;
29 But in response, Jesus said to them: “I also will ask you one word, and if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 The baptism of John: was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.” 30 The baptism of John—was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.”
31 But they discussed it among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ 31 They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we should say, ‘From heaven;’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
31 καὶ ἐλογίζοντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες· ἐὰν εἴπωμεν, ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ· διατί οὖν οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ;
32 If we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the people. For they all hold that John was a true prophet.” 32 If we should say, ‘From men’”—they feared the people, for all held John to really be a prophet.
33 And answering, they said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And in response, Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” 33 They answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
