2 Jer On govori: U vreme najbolje poslušah te, i u dan spasenja pomogoh ti.
3 Nikakvo ni u čemu ne dajete spoticanje, da se služba ne kudi;
4 Antes habiéndonos en todas cosas como ministros de Dios, en mucha paciencia, en tribulaciones, en necesidades, en angustias;
5 u ranama, u tamnicama, u bunama, u trudovima, u nespavanju, u postu,
5 En azotes, en cárceles, en alborotos, en trabajos, en vigilias, en ayunos;
6 u čistoti, u razumu, u podnošenju, u dobroti, u Duhu svetom, u ljubavi istinitoj,
6 En castidad, en ciencia, en longanimidad, en bondad, en Espíritu Santo, en amor no fingido;
7 u reči istine, u sili Božjoj, s oružjem pravde i nadesno i nalevo,
7 En palabra de verdad, en potencia de Dios, en armas de justicia á diestro y á siniestro;
8 slavom i sramotom, kuđenjem i pohvalom, kao varalice i istiniti,
8 Por honra y por deshonra, por infamia y por buena fama; como engañadores, mas hombres de verdad;
9 Como ignorados, mas conocidos; como muriendo, mas he aquí vivimos; como castigados, mas no muertos;
12 No estáis estrechos en nosotros, mas estáis estrechos en vuestras propias entrañas.
18 I biću vam Otac, i vi ćete biti moji sinovi i kćeri, govori Gospod Svedržitelj.
18 Y seré á vosotros Padre, y vosotros me seréis á mí hijos é hijas, dice el Señor Todopoderoso.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 6:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on Second Corinthians (Homily XII)

    For since he said, God beseeches, and we are ambassadors and suppliants unto you, that ye be "reconciled unto God:" lest they should become supine, he hereby again alarms and arouses them, saying: "We intreat that ye receive not the grace of God in vain." For let us not,' he says, therefore be at ease, because He beseeches and hath …

And while the children of heathens, who know nothing of resurrection, do yet find words of consolation, saying, "Bear it manfully, for it is not possible to undo what hath taken place, nor to amend it by lamentations;" art not thou, who hearest sayings wiser and better than these, ashamed …
