4 I odgovori mu Isus govoreći: U pismu stoji: Neće živeti čovek o samom hlebu, nego o svakoj reči Božijoj.
5 I izvedavši Ga đavo na goru visoku pokaza Mu sva carstva ovog sveta u trenuću oka,
6 i reče Mu đavo: Tebi ću dati svu vlast ovu i slavu njihovu, jer je meni predana, i kome ja hoću daću je;
9 I odvede Ga u Jerusalim, i postavi Ga navrh crkve, i reče Mu: Ako si Sin Božji, skoči odavde dole;
10 Porque escrito está: Que á sus ángeles mandará de ti, que te guarden;
12 I odgovarajući Isus reče mu: Kazano je: Ne kušaj Gospoda Boga svog.
15 I On učaše po zbornicama njihovim, i svi Ga hvaljahu.
17 I daše Mu knjigu proroka Isaije, i otvorivši knjigu nađe mesto gde beše napisano:
18 Duh je Gospodnji na meni; zato me pomaza da javim jevanđelje siromasima; posla me da iscelim skrušene u srcu; da propovedim zarobljenima da će se otpustiti, i slepima da će progledati; da otpustim sužnje;
21 I poče im govoriti: Danas se izvrši ovo pismo u ušima vašim.
23 I reče im: Vi ćete meni bez sumnje kazati ovu priču: Lekaru!
25 A zaista vam kažem: Mnoge udovice behu u Izrailju u vreme Ilijino kad se nebo zatvori tri godine i šest meseci i bi velika glad po svoj zemlji;
25 Mas en verdad os digo, [que] muchas viudas había en Israel en los días de Elías, cuando el cielo fué cerrado por tres años y seis meses, que hubo una grande hambre en toda la tierra;
28 I svi se u zbornici napuniše gneva kad čuše ovo.
28 Entonces todos en la sinagoga fueron llenos de ira, oyendo estas cosas;
30 Ali On prođe između njih, i otide.
31 I dođe u Kapernaum grad galilejski, i učaše ih u subote.
31 Y descendió á Capernaum, ciudad de Galilea. Y los enseñaba en los sábados.
32 I čuđahu se nauci Njegovoj; jer Njegova beseda beše silna.
33 I u zbornici beše čovek u kome beše nečisti duh đavolski, i povika glasno
¿has venido á destruirnos?
37 I otide glas o Njemu po svima okolnim mestima.
39 I stavši više nje zapreti groznici, i pusti je. I odmah ustade i služaše im.
43 A On im reče: I drugim gradovima treba mi propovediti jevanđelje o carstvu Božijem; jer sam na to poslan.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

    For this reason, too, did the Lord Himself read at Capernaum the prophecies of Isaiah: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me; to preach the Gospel to the poor hath He sent Me, to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind." At the same time, showing that …

    She accounted the Lord a prophet, and a prophet indeed He was; for it was of Himself He said, that "a prophet is not without honor, save in his own country." Again, of Him it was said to Moses, "A Prophet will I raise up to them of their brethren, like unto thee." Like, namely, as to the form of …

    Never say then that riches are the devil's: for though he say, All these will I give thee, for they are delivered unto me, one may indeed even reject his assertion; for we need not believe the liar: and yet perhaps he spake the truth, being compelled by the power of His presence: for he said not, All these …
