BBE Biblia en inglés básico WEB World English Bible (clásica, con deuterocanónicos) PT1904 Texto Patriarcal 1904 (acentuado, edición de eBible) 1 Now a certain man named Lazarus was ill; he was of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.
2 (The Mary whose brother Lazarus was ill, was the Mary who put perfumed oil on the Lord and made his feet dry with her hair.) 2 It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
3 So the sisters sent to him, saying, Lord, your dear friend is ill. 3 The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”
4 When this came to his ears, Jesus said, The end of this disease is not death, but the glory of God, so that the Son of God may have glory because of it. 4 But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”
5 Now Jesus had love in his heart for Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 So when the news came to him that Lazarus was ill, he did not go from the place where he was for two days. 6 When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.
7 Then after that time he said to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. 7 Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”
8 The disciples said to him, Master, the Jews were attempting only the other day to have you stoned, and are you going back there again? 8 The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”
8 λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί· ῥαββί, νῦν ἐζήτουν σε λιθάσαι οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι, καὶ πάλιν ὑπάγεις ἐκεῖ;
9 Then Jesus said in answer, Are there not twelve hours in the day? A man may go about in the day without falling, because he sees the light of this world. 9 Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
10 But if a man goes about in the night, he may have a fall because the light is not in him. 10 But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”
11 These things said he: and after that he said to them, Lazarus our friend is at rest; but I go so that I may make him come out of his sleep. 11 He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”
12 Then his disciples said to him, Lord, if he is resting he will get well. 12 The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”
13 Jesus, however, was talking of his death: but they had the idea that he was talking about taking rest in sleep. 13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.
14 Then Jesus said to them clearly, Lazarus is dead. 14 So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.
15 And because of you I am glad I was not there, so that you may have faith; but let us go to him. 15 I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”
16 Then Thomas, who was named Didymus, said to the other disciples, Let us go so that we may be with him in death. 16 Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”
17 Now when Jesus came, he made the discovery that Lazarus had been put into the earth four days before. 17 So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
18 Now Bethany was near to Jerusalem, about two miles away; 18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.
19 And a number of Jews had come to Martha and Mary to give them comfort about their brother. 19 Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
20 When Martha had the news that Jesus was on the way, she went out to him, but Mary did not go from the house. 20 Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.
21 Then Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here my brother would not be dead. 21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.
22 But I am certain that, even now, whatever request you make to God, God will give it to you. 22 Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”
23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will come to life again. 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha said to him, I am certain that he will come to life again when all come back from the dead at the last day. 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, I am myself that day and that life; he who has faith in me will have life even if he is dead; 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
26 And no one who is living and has faith in me will ever see death. Is this your faith? 26 Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
26 ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ, κἂν ἀποθάνῃ, ζήσεται· καὶ πᾶς ὁ ζῶν καὶ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. πιστεύεις τοῦτο;
27 She said to him, Yes, Lord: my faith is that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world. 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”
28 And having said this, she went away and said secretly to her sister Mary, The Master is here and has sent for you. 28 When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”
29 And Mary, hearing this, got up quickly and went to him. 29 When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.
30 Now Jesus had not at this time come into the town, but was still in the place where Martha had seen him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.
31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house, comforting her, when they saw Mary get up quickly and go out, went after her in the belief that she was going to the place of the dead and would be weeping there. 31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”
32 When Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she went down at his feet, saying, Lord, if you had been here my brother would not be dead. 32 Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
33 And when Jesus saw her weeping, and saw the Jews weeping who came with her, his spirit was moved and he was troubled, 33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled,
34 And said, Where have you put him? They said, Come and see, Lord. 34 and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”
35 And Jesus himself was weeping. 35 Jesus wept.
36 So the Jews said, See how dear he was to him! 36 The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”
37 But some of them said, This man, who made open the eyes of the blind man, was he not able to keep his friend from death? 37 Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”
37 τινὲς δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶπον· οὐκ ἠδύνατο οὗτος, ὁ ἀνοίξας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τοῦ τυφλοῦ, ποιῆσαι ἵνα καὶ οὗτος μὴ ἀποθάνῃ;
38 So Jesus, deeply troubled in heart, came to the place of the dead. It was a hole in the rock, and a stone was over the opening. 38 Jesus therefore, again groaning in himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
39 Jesus said, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said, Lord, by this time the body will be smelling, for he has been dead four days. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
40 Jesus said to her, Did I not say to you that if you had faith you would see the glory of God? 40 Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”
40 λέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· οὐκ εἶπόν σοι ὅτι ἐὰν πιστεύσῃς, ὄψει τὴν δόξαν τοῦ Θεοῦ;
41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus, looking up to heaven, said, Father, I give praise to you for hearing me. 41 So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.
42 I was certain that your ears are at all times open to me, but I said it because of these who are here, so that they may see that you sent me. 42 I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”
43 Then he said in a loud voice, Lazarus, come out! 43 When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
44 And he who was dead came out, with linen bands folded tightly about his hands and feet, and a cloth about his face. Jesus said to them, Make him free and let him go. 44 He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”
45 Then a number of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen the things which Jesus did had belief in him. 45 Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.
46 But some of them went to the Pharisees with the news of what Jesus had done. 46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.
47 Then the high priests and the Pharisees had a meeting and said, What are we doing? This man is doing a number of signs. 47 The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
47 συνήγαγον οὖν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συνέδριον καὶ ἔλεγον· τί ποιοῦμεν, ὅτι οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος πολλὰ σημεῖα ποιεῖ;
48 If we let him go on in this way, everybody will have belief in him and the Romans will come and take away our place and our nation. 48 If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, You have no knowledge of anything; 49 But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,
50 You do not see that it is in your interest for one man to be put to death for the people, so that all the nation may not come to destruction. 50 nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”
51 He did not say this of himself, but being the high priest that year he said, as a prophet, that Jesus would be put to death for the nation; 51 Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
52 And not for that nation only, but for the purpose of uniting in one body the children of God all over the world. 52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
53 And from that day they took thought together how to put him to death. 53 So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.
54 So Jesus no longer went about publicly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near to the waste land, to a town named Ephraim, where he was for some time with the disciples. 54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples.
55 Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and numbers of people went up from the country to Jerusalem to make themselves clean before the Passover. 55 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
56 They were looking for Jesus and saying to one another while they were in the Temple, What is your opinion? Will he not come to the feast? 56 Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”
56 ἐζήτουν οὖν τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἔλεγον μετ᾽ ἀλλήλων ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἑστηκότες· τί δοκεῖ ὑμῖν, ὅτι οὐ μὴ ἔλθῃ εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν;
57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone had knowledge where he was, he was to give them word, so that they might take him. 57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
