1 For the end, for the sons of Korah; a Psalm concerning secret things.
·
2 God is our refuge and strength, A help in the afflictions that have come heavily upon us.
3 Therefore will we not fear when the earth is troubled, And the mountains are removed into the depths of the seas.
4 Their waters have roared and been troubled, The mountains have been troubled by his might. Pause.
(Selah.)
5 The flowings of the river gladden the city of God: The Most High has sanctified his tabernacle.
6 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her with his countenance.
7 The nations were troubled, the kingdoms tottered: He uttered his voice, the earth shook.
8 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our helper. Pause.
(Selah.)
9 Come, and behold the works of the Lord, What wonders he has achieved on the earth.
10 Putting an end to wars as for the ends of the earth; He will crush the bow, and break in pieces the weapon, And burn the bucklers with fire.
11 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
12 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our helper.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm XLV)

Why need I explain what is meant by, "for the things that shall be changed"? Every one who is himself "changed," recognises the meaning of this. Let him who hears this, "for the things that shall be changed," consider what was before, and what is now.

But now not in his own voice, but in Thine who sentest Thy Spirit from above; through Him who "ascended up on high," and set open the flood-gates of His gifts, that the force of His streams might make glad the city of God. For, for Him doth "the friend of the bridegroom" sigh, having now the first-fruits of …

One of the sacred Psalmists says, "Come, behold the works of the Lord, what prodigies He hath wrought in the earth." Why God made woman out of man's side, and what this first prodigy prefigured, I shall, with God's help, tell in another place.

There shall be accomplished the words of the psalm, "Be still, and know that I am God." There shall be the great Sabbath which has no evening, which God celebrated among His first works, as it is written, "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works which He had made.
