1 For the end, for Jeduthun, a Psalm of Asaph.
·
2 I cried to the Lord with my voice, Yea, my voice [was addressed] to God; and he gave heed to me.
77:1 Al Músico principal: para Jeduthún: Salmo de Asaph. CON mi voz clamé á Dios, á Dios clamé, y él me escuchará.
3 In the day of mine affliction I earnestly sought the Lord; [Even] with my hands by night before him, and I was not deceived; My soul refused to be comforted.
4 I remembered God, and rejoiced; I poured out my complaint, and my soul fainted. Pause.
(Selah.)
5 All mine enemies set a watch [against me]: I was troubled, and spoke not.
6 I considered the days of old, And remembered ancient years.
7 And I meditated; I communed with my heart by night, And diligently searched my spirit, [saying],
8 Will the Lord cast off forever? And will he be well pleased no more?
9 Will he cut off his mercy forever, Even forever and ever?
10 Will God forget to pity? Or will he shut up his compassions in his wrath? Pause.
77:9 ¿Ha olvidado Dios el tener misericordia? ¿ha encerrado con ira sus piedades? (Selah.)
11 And I said, Now I have begun; This is the change of the right hand of the Most High.
12 I remembered the works of the Lord; For I will remember thy wonders from the beginning.
13 And I will meditate on all thy works, And will consider thy doings.
14 O God, thy way is in the sanctuary; Who is a great God as our God?
15 Thou art the God that doest wonders; Thou hast made known thy power among the nations.
16 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Pause.
(Selah.)
17 The waters saw thee, O God, The waters saw thee, and feared; And the depths were troubled.
18 [There was] an abundant sound of waters: The clouds uttered a voice; For thine arrows went abroad.
19 The voice of thy thunder was abroad, And around thy lightnings appeared to the world; The earth trembled and quaked.
20 Thy way is in the sea, And thy paths in many waters, And thy footsteps cannot be known.
21 Thou didst guide thy people as sheep By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LXXVI)

The Jews are wont to glory in this Psalm which we have sung, saying, "Known in Judæa is God, in Israel great is the name of Him:" and to revile the Gentiles to whom God is not known, and to say that to themselves alone God is known; seeing that the Prophet saith, "Known in Judæa is God." In other …

  2. Cita 77:9 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XXI, Chapters 17–19)

The verse runs: "Shall God forget to be gracious? Shall He in anger shut up His tender mercies?" His anger, they say, would condemn all that are unworthy of everlasting happiness to endless punishment.

  3. Cita 77:20 Basil of Caesarea, On the Holy Spirit (Chapter XIX)

… sent me," and "the Spirit came down from the Lord and guided them." And pray do not again understand by this guidance some humble service, for the Word witnesses that it was the work of God;--"Thou leddest thy people," it is said "like a flock," and "Thou that leadest Joseph like a flock," and "He led them on safely, so …

  4. Cita 77:9 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XXI, Chapters 22–24)

shall He shut up in His anger His tender mercies" as if the sentence of God were true of good men, false of bad men, or true of good men and wicked angels, but false of bad men.

  5. Cita 77:10 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XXI, Chapters 22–24)

shall He shut up in His anger His tender mercies?" and then immediately subjoins, "And I said, Now I begin: this is the change wrought by the right hand of the Most High," he manifestly explained what he meant by the words, "Shall he shut up in His anger His tender mercies?"
