WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) PT1904 Patriarchal Text 1904 (accented, eBible edition) 1 Then the scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem come up to Jesus, saying, 1 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying,
2 Why do thy disciples transgress what has been delivered by the ancients? for they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. 2 “Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat bread.”
3 But he answering said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching? 3 He answered them, “Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?
3 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· διατί καὶ ὑμεῖς παραβαίνετε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ Θεοῦ διὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν;
4 For God commanded saying, Honour father and mother; and, He that speaks ill of father or mother, let him die the death. 4 For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’
5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or mother, It is a gift, whatsoever [it be] by which [received] from me thou wouldest be profited: 5 But you say, ‘Whoever may tell his father or his mother, “Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,”
6 and he shall in no wise honour his father or his mother; and ye have made void the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching. 6 he shall not honor his father or mother.’ You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.
7 Hypocrites! well has Esaias prophesied about you, saying, 7 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people honour me with the lips, but their heart is far away from me; 8 ‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 but in vain do they worship me, teaching [as] teachings commandments of men. 9 And they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.’”
10 And having called to [him] the crowd, he said to them, Hear and understand: 10 He summoned the multitude, and said to them, “Hear, and understand.
11 Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man; but what goes forth out of the mouth, this defiles the man. 11 That which enters into the mouth doesn’t defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”
12 Then his disciples, coming up, said to him, Dost thou know that the Pharisees, having heard this word, have been offended? 12 Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”
12 τότε προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ εἶπον αὐτῷ· οἶδας ὅτι οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ἐσκανδαλίσθησαν ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον;
13 But he answering said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. 13 But he answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted.
14 Leave them alone; they are blind leaders of blind: but if blind lead blind, both will fall into a ditch. 14 Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”
15 And Peter answering said to him, Expound to us this parable. 15 Peter answered him, “Explain the parable to us.”
16 But he said, Are ye also still without intelligence? 16 So Jesus said, “Do you also still not understand?
16 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· ἀκμὴν καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀσύνετοί ἐστε;
17 Do ye not yet apprehend, that everything that enters into the mouth finds its way into the belly, and is cast forth into the draught? 17 Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly and then out of the body?
17 οὔπω νοεῖτε ὅτι πᾶν τὸ εἰσπορευόμενον εἰς τὸ στόμα εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν χωρεῖ καὶ εἰς ἀφεδρῶνα ἐκβάλλεται;
18 but the things which go forth out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those defile man. 18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnessings, blasphemies; 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.
20 these are the things which defile man; but the eating with unwashen hands does not defile man. 20 These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn’t defile the man.”
21 And Jesus, going forth from thence, went away into the parts of Tyre and Sidon; 21 Jesus went out from there and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 and lo, a Canaanitish woman, coming out from those borders, cried [to him] saying, Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is miserably possessed by a demon. 22 Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!”
23 But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came to [him] and asked him, saying, Dismiss her, for she cries after us. 23 But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.”
24 But he answering said, I have not been sent save to the lost sheep of Israel's house. 24 But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
25 But she came and did him homage, saying, Lord, help me. 25 But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.”
26 But he answering said, It is not well to take the bread of the children and cast it to the dogs. 26 But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
27 But she said, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from the table of their masters. 27 But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 Then Jesus answering said to her, O woman, thy faith [is] great. Be it to thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was healed from that hour. 28 Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.
29 And Jesus, going away from thence, came towards the sea of Galilee, and he went up into the mountain and sat down there; 29 Jesus departed from there and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up on the mountain and sat there.
30 and great crowds came to him, having with them lame, blind, dumb, crippled, and many others, and they cast them at his feet, and he healed them: 30 Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,
31 so that the crowds wondered, seeing dumb speaking, crippled sound, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. 31 so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, the injured healed, the lame walking, and the blind seeing—and they glorified the God of Israel.
32 But Jesus, having called his disciples to [him], said, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat, and I would not send them away fasting lest they should faint on the way. 32 Jesus summoned his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have continued with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way.”
33 And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so many loaves in [the] wilderness as to satisfy so great a crowd? 33 The disciples said to him, “Where could we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?”
33 καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ· πόθεν ἡμῖν ἐν ἐρημίᾳ ἄρτοι τοσοῦτοι ὥστε χορτάσαι ὄχλον τοσοῦτον;
34 And Jesus says to them, How many loaves have ye? But they said, Seven, and a few small fishes. 34 Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”
35 And he commanded the crowds to lie down on the ground; 35 He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;
36 and having taken the seven loaves and the fishes, having given thanks, he broke [them] and gave [them] to his disciples, and the disciples to the crowd. 36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
37 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was over and above of the fragments seven baskets full; 37 They all ate and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.
38 but they that ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. 38 Those who ate were four thousand men, in addition to women and children.
39 And, having dismissed the crowds, he went on board ship and came to the borders of Magadan. 39 Then he sent away the multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.
