WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth: some standing here won't die before they see the kingdom of God having come with power.” 1 TAMBIÉN les dijo: De cierto os digo que hay algunos de los que están aquí, que no gustarán la muerte hasta que hayan visto el reino de Dios que viene con potencia.
1 He said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste death until they see God’s Kingdom come with power.”
2 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him, and led them up a high mountain to be by themselves. His appearance totally changed.
2 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and brought them up onto a high mountain privately by themselves, and he was changed into another form in front of them.
3 His clothes shone a brilliant white, whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them.
3 His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared in front of them as well, talking with Jesus.
4 Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter spoke up and said, “Rabbi, it's great for us to be here! We should make three shelters—one each for you, Moses, and Elijah.” 5 Entonces respondiendo Pedro, dice á Jesús: Maestro, bien será que nos quedemos aquí, y hagamos tres pabellones: para ti uno, y para Moisés otro, y para Elías otro;
5 Peter answered Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
6 (He really didn't know what to say because they were all so frightened!) 6 Porque no sabía lo que hablaba; que estaban espantados.
6 For he didn’t know what to say, for they were very afraid.
7 Then a cloud covered them, and a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, the one I love. Listen to him.” 7 Y vino una nube que les hizo sombra, y una voz de la nube, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado: á él oid.
7 A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
8 Then, all of a sudden, as they were watching, there was nobody. Only Jesus was with them.
8 Suddenly looking around, they saw no one with them any more, except Jesus only.
9 As they came down the mountain Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone what they'd seen until the Son of man had risen from the dead.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
10 They kept this to themselves, but they did argue with each other over what it meant to rise from the dead.
10 They kept this saying to themselves, questioning what the “rising from the dead” meant.
11 “Why do the religious teachers state that Elijah has to come first?” they asked him.
11 They asked him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
12 “It's true that Elijah comes first to prepare everything,” Jesus replied. “But why then does it say in Scripture that the Son of man has to suffer so much and be treated with contempt? 12 Y respondiendo él, les dijo: Elías á la verdad, viniendo antes, restituirá todas las cosas: y como está escrito del Hijo del hombre, que padezca mucho y sea tenido en nada.
12 He said to them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?
13 However, I tell you that Elijah has come, and they abused him in whatever way they wanted, just as Scripture said they would.” 13 Empero os digo que Elías [ya] vino, y le hicieron todo lo que quisieron, como está escrito de él.
13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him.”
14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw them surrounded by a large crowd and some religious teachers arguing with them.
14 Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them.
15 As soon as the crowd saw Jesus they were in total awe, and ran to greet him.
15 Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, greeted him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” Jesus asked them. 16 Y preguntóles: ¿Qué disputáis con ellos?
16 He asked the scribes, “What are you asking them?”
17 One of the people in the crowd answered, “Rabbi, I brought my son to you. He has an evil spirit that prevents him speaking. 17 Y respondiendo uno de la compañía, dijo: Maestro, traje á ti mi hijo, que tiene un espíritu mudo,
17 One of the multitude answered, “Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;
18 Whenever he has a seizure it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and he becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out of him, but they couldn't do it.” 18 El cual, donde quiera que le toma, le despedaza; y echa espumarajos, y cruje los dientes, y se va secando: y dije á tus discípulos que le echasen fuera, y no pudieron.
18 and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”
19 “You unbelieving people!” Jesus responded. “How long must I remain here with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring him over here to me!” 19 Y respondiendo él, les dijo: ¡Oh generación infiel! ¿hasta cuándo estaré con vosotros? ¿hasta cuándo os tengo de sufrir? Traédmele.
19 He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”
20 So they brought him to Jesus. When the evil spirit saw Jesus it immediately sent the boy into convulsions and threw him on the ground, where he rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
20 They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.
21 “How long has he had this?” Jesus asked the boy's father. “Since he was small,” the father replied.
21 He asked his father, “How long has it been since this has been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood.
22 “Often it throws him into the fire to burn him to death, or throws him into water to drown him. Please have mercy on us and help, if you can.” 22 Y muchas veces le echa en el fuego y en aguas, para matarle; mas, si puedes algo, ayúdanos, teniendo misericordia de nosotros.
22 Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23 “Why do you say, ‘if you can?’” replied Jesus. “Whoever trusts has every power!” 23 Y Jesús le dijo: Si puedes creer, al que cree todo es posible.
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 “I do trust in you,” the man shouted out right away. “Help me not to distrust you.” 24 Y luego el padre del muchacho dijo clamando: Creo, ayuda mi incredulidad.
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”
25 Jesus, seeing that the crowd was closing in, commanded the evil spirit, “Spirit that causes deafness and dumbness, I order you to come out of him and never return.” 25 Y como Jesús vió que la multitud se agolpaba, reprendió al espíritu inmundo, diciéndole: Espíritu mudo y sordo, yo te mando, sal de él, y no entres más en él.
25 When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”
26 The spirit screamed and threw the boy into severe convulsions. Then the spirit came out of the boy and left him for dead—to the extent that many of the people said, “He's dead.” 26 Entonces [el espíritu] clamando y desgarrándole mucho, salió; y [él] quedó como muerto, de modo que muchos decían: Está muerto.
26 After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”
27 But Jesus took the boy by the hand and helped him up, and he got to his feet.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up; and he arose.
28 Later, when Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him in private, “Why couldn't we drive the evil spirit out?” 28 Y como él entró en casa, sus discípulos le preguntaron aparte: ¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos echarle fuera?
28 When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”
29 “This kind can't be driven out except by prayer,” Jesus told them.
29 He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but by prayer and fasting.”
30 They left and passed through Galilee. Jesus didn't want anyone to know where he was 30 Y habiendo salido de allí, caminaron por Galilea; y no quería que nadie lo supiese.
30 They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it,
31 because he was teaching his disciples. “The Son of man will be betrayed to human authorities,” he told them. “They will kill him, but three days later he will rise again.” 31 Porque enseñaba á sus discípulos, y les decía: El Hijo del hombre será entregado en manos de hombres, y le matarán; mas muerto [él], resucitará al tercer día.
31 for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”
32 They didn't understand what he meant and were too afraid to ask him about it. 32 Pero ellos no entendían [esta] palabra, y tenían miedo de preguntarle.
32 But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33 They arrived at Capernaum, and once they were inside the house where they were staying, Jesus asked them, “What were you talking about on the way?” 33 Y llegó á Capernaum; y así que estuvo en casa, les preguntó: ¿Qué disputabais entre vosotros en el camino?
33 He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”
34 But they didn't say anything because they had been arguing over who was the most important.
34 But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way about who was the greatest.
35 Jesus sat down and called the twelve disciples together. “If anyone wants to be first, he has to be the very last, the servant of everyone else,” he told them.
35 He sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.”
36 He took a small child and had the child stand right in the middle of them. Then he picked up and hugged the child, and told them, 36 Y tomando un niño, púsolo en medio de ellos; y tomándole en sus brazos, les dice:
36 He took a little child and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,
37 “Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name, welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me doesn't welcome me but the one who sent me.” 37 El que recibiere en mi nombre uno de los tales niños, á mí recibe; y el que á mí recibe, no recibe á mí, mas al que me envió.
37 “Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, doesn’t receive me, but him who sent me.”
38 John said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we saw someone driving out demons in your name. We tried to stop him because he wasn't one of us.” 38 Y respondióle Juan, diciendo: Maestro, hemos visto á uno que en tu nombre echaba fuera los demonios, el cual no nos sigue; y se lo prohibimos, porque no nos sigue.
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone who doesn’t follow us casting out demons in your name; and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow us.”
39 “Don't stop him,” Jesus replied. “For no one who is doing miracles in my name can curse me at the same time. 39 Y Jesús dijo: No se lo prohibáis; porque ninguno hay que haga milagro en mi nombre que luego pueda decir mal de mí.
39 But Jesus said, “Don’t forbid him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my name and be able quickly to speak evil of me.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us. 40 Porque el que no es contra nosotros, por nosotros es.
40 For whoever is not against us is on our side.
41 Anyone who gives a cup of water to you in my name, because you belong to Christ, won't lose their reward, believe me. 41 Y cualquiera que os diere un vaso de agua en mi nombre, porque sois de Cristo, de cierto os digo que no perderá su recompensa.
41 For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my name because you are Christ’s, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.
42 But if anyone leads one of these little ones who trust in me into sin, it would be better for them if they were thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around their neck.
42 “Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if he were thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck.
43 If your hand leads you to sin, cut it off! It's better to enter eternal life as a cripple than to go with both hands into Gehenna, into the fire that can't be put out. 43 Y si tu mano te escandalizare, córtala: mejor te es entrar á la vida manco, que teniendo dos manos ir á la Gehenna, al fuego que no puede ser apagado;
43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire,
44 Not in this translation 44 Donde su gusano no muere, y el fuego nunca se apaga.
44 ‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’
45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It's better to enter eternal life lame than to be thrown into Gehenna still having two feet. 45 Y si tu pie te fuere ocasión de caer, córtalo: mejor te es entrar á la vida cojo, que teniendo dos pies ser echado en la Gehenna, al fuego que no puede ser apagado;
45 If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire that will never be quenched—
46 Not in this translation 46 Donde el gusano de ellos no muere, y el fuego nunca se apaga.
46 ‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’
47 If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out! It's better to enter the kingdom of God with just one eye than to be thrown into Gehenna still having both eyes, 47 Y si tu ojo te fuere ocasión de caer, sácalo: mejor te es entrar al reino de Dios con un ojo, que teniendo dos ojos ser echado á la Gehenna;
47 If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out. It is better for you to enter into God’s Kingdom with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna of fire,
48 where the worm doesn't die and the fire never goes out.
48 ‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’
49 Everybody will be ‘salted’ by fire.
49 For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.
50 Salt is good, but if it loses its taste, how could you make it salty again? You need to be like salt, and live in peace with one another.” 50 Buena es la sal; mas si la sal fuere desabrida, ¿con qué la adobaréis?
50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
