1 For the music director. A psalm of David. May the Lord answer you when you are in trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. 2 May the Lord send you help from the sanctuary, and may he support you from Zion. 3 May the Lord remember all your offerings, and accept all your burnt sacrifices. Selah. 4 May the Lord give you whatever you really want; may he make all your plans successful. 5 May we shout for joy over your victory, and set up banners in the name of our God. May the Lord answer all your requests. 6 Now I know that the Lord saves the one he has anointed. He will answer him from his holy heaven, and save his anointed by his powerful right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in war horses, but we trust in who the Lord our God is. 8 They collapse and fall down, but we rise and stand up. 9 May the Lord save the king! Please answer us when we call for help!

What the Fathers said
Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).
How these were chosen
“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).
It is a well-known title; nor does the Lord Jesus Christ say what follows, but it is said of Him. 2. "The heavens tell out the glory of God" (ver. 1).
