2 Pobožan i bogobojazan sa celim domom svojim, koji davaše milostinju mnogim ljudima i moljaše se Bogu bez prestanka;
3 on vide na javi u utvari oko devetog sata dnevi anđela Božjeg gde siđe k njemu i reče mu: Kornilije!
4 A on pogledavši na nj i uplašivši se reče: Šta je, Gospode? A on mu reče: Molitve tvoje i milostinje tvoje iziđoše na pamet Bogu;
5 i sad pošlji u Jopu ljude i dozovi Simona prozvanog Petra:
6 On stoji u nekog Simona kožara, kog je kuća kod mora: on će ti kazati reči kojima ćeš se spasti ti i sav dom tvoj.
7 E ido el ángel que hablaba con Cornelio, llamó dos de sus criados, y un devoto soldado de los que le asistían;
8 i kazavši im sve posla ih u Jopu.
9 Y al día siguiente, yendo ellos su camino, y llegando cerca de la ciudad, Pedro subió á la azotea á orar, cerca de la hora de sexta;
10 I ogladne, i htede da jede; a kad mu oni gotovljahu, dođe izvan sebe,
10 Y aconteció que le vino una grande hambre, y quiso comer; pero mientras disponían, sobrevínole un éxtasis;
11 i vide nebo otvoreno i sud nekakav gde silazi na njega, kao veliko platno, zavezan na četiri roglja i spušta se na zemlju;
11 Y vió el cielo abierto, y que descendía un vaso, como un gran lienzo, que atado de los cuatro cabos era bajado á la tierra;
12 u kome behu sva četvoronožna na zemlji, i zverinje i bubine i ptice nebeske.
13 I postade glas k njemu: Ustani, Petre! Pokolji i pojedi.
14 A Petar reče: Nipošto, Gospode!
14 Entonces Pedro dijo: Señor, no; porque ninguna cosa común é inmunda he comido jamás.
15 I gle, glas opet k njemu drugom: Šta je Bog očistio ti ne pogani.
18 i zovnuvši pitahu: Stoji li ovde Simon prozvani Petar?
19 A dok Petar razmišljavaše o utvari, reče mu Duh: Evo tri čoveka traže te;
20 nego ustani i siđi i idi s njima ne premišljajući ništa, jer ih ja poslah.
23 Onda ih dozva unutra i ugosti.
24 I sutradan uđoše u Ćesariju. A Kornilije čekaše ih sazvavši rodbinu svoju i ljubazne prijatelje.
26 I Petar ga podiže govoreći: Ustani, i ja sam čovek.
28 I reče im: Vi znate kako je neprilično čoveku Jevrejinu družiti se ili dolaziti k tuđinu; ali Bog meni pokaza da nijednog čoveka ne zovem poganim ili nečistim;
28 Y les dijo: Vosotros sabéis que es abominable á un varón Judío juntarse ó llegarse á extranjero; mas me ha mostrado Dios que á ningún hombre llame común ó inmundo;
29 zato i bez sumnje dođoh pozvan.
30 I Kornilije reče: Od četvrtog dana do ovog časa ja postih, i u deveti sat moljah se Bogu u svojoj kući; i gle, čovek stade preda mnom u haljini sjajnoj,
31 i reče: Kornilije!
34 A Petar otvorivši usta reče: Zaista vidim da Bog ne gleda ko je ko;
34 Entonces Pedro, abriendo su boca, dijo: Por verdad hallo que Dios no hace acepción de personas;
40 Ovog Bog vaskrse treći dan, i dade Mu da se pokaže,
46 Jer ih slušahu gde govorahu jezike, i veličahu Boga. Tada odgovori Petar:

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 10:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles (Homily XXII)

    This man is not a Jew, nor of those under the Law, but he had already forestalled our manner of life. Observe, thus far, two persons, both of high rank, receiving the faith, the eunuch at Gaza and this man; and the pains taken on behalf of these men.
