1 U Tebe se, Gospode, uzdam, nemoj me ostaviti pod sramotom večnom.
1 EN ti, oh Jehová, he esperado; no sea yo confuso para siempre.
2 Pravdom svojom izbavi me, i oprosti me, prigni k meni uho svoje i pomozi mi.
2 Hazme escapar, y líbrame en tu justicia: inclina tu oído y sálvame.
3 Budi mi grad gde bih svagda dolazio da živim, uredi spasenje moje; jer si Ti grad moj i krepost moja.
Uzmi me iz ruke bezbožnikove, iz ruke bezakonikove i nasilnikove.
7 Čudo sam mnogima, a Ti si utočište moje jako.
9 Nemoj me odbaciti pod starost, kad me izdaje snaga moja, nemoj me ostaviti.
11 Govoreći: Bog ga je ostavio, poterajte i uhvatite ga, jer ga nema ko izbaviti.
14 A ja ću se svagda uzdati, i ponavljaću hvale Tebi.
15 Usta će moja kazivati pravdu Tvoju, svaki dan dobročinstva Tvoja, jer im ne znam broja.
16 Ući ću u sili Gospoda Gospoda, i slaviću samo Tvoju pravdu.
Ti si me učio od mladosti, i do danas kazujem čudesa Tvoja.
18 Ni u starosti i kad osedeh nemoj me ostaviti, Bože, eda bih kazivao mišicu Tvoju nasleđu, svoj omladini silu Tvoju,
20 Koliko si me puta bacao u velike i ljute nevolje, pak si me opet ostavio među živima i iz bezdana me zemaljskih opet izvadio.
21 Mnogo si me puta podizao i ponavljao utehe.
21 Aumentarás mi grandeza, y volverás á consolarme.
22 I ja Te hvalim uz psaltir, Tvoju vernost, Bože moj; udaram Ti u gusle, Sveče Izrailjev!
24 I jezik moj svaki dan kazuje pravdu Tvoju; jer su postiđeni i posramljeni oni koji mi traže zla.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LXX)

Thanks to the "Corn of wheat," because He willed to die and to be multiplied: thanks to the only Son of God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who disdained not to undergo our death, in order that He might make us worthy of His life.

  2. Quotes verse 71:5 Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (Book VI)

    1. O Thou, my hope from my youth, where wert Thou to me, and whither hadst Thou gone?

  3. Quotes verse 71:3 Basil of Caesarea, On the Holy Spirit (Chapters XXV–XXVI)

Accordingly we find the Psalmist, even in reference to God, saying "Be Thou to me a champion God and a strong place to save me" and concerning the Spirit "behold there is place by me, and stand upon a rock." Plainly meaning the place or contemplation in the Spirit wherein, after Moses had entered thither, he was able to see …
