1 Načelniku pevačkom. Uza sviralu. Benu. Psalam Davidov. Hvalim Te, Gospode, iz svega srca svog, kazujem sva čudesa Tvoja.
1 For the Chief Musician. Set to “The Death of the Son.” A Psalm by David. I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.
2 Radujem se i veselim se o Tebi, pevam imenu Tvom, Višnji!
2 Alegraréme y regocijaréme en ti: cantaré á tu nombre, oh Altísimo;
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3 Neprijatelji se moji vratiše natrag, spotakoše se i nesta ih ispred lica Tvog;
3 When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.
4 Jer si svršio sud moj i odbranio me; seo si na presto, sudija pravedni.
4 For you have maintained my just cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.
5 You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6 Neprijatelju nesta mačeva sasvim; gradove Ti si razvalio; pogibe spomen njihov.
6 The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin. The very memory of the cities which you have overthrown has perished.
7 But Yahweh reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.
8 On će suditi vasionom svetu po pravdi, usudiće narodima pravo.
8 He will judge the world in righteousness. He will administer judgment to the peoples in uprightness.
9 Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.
10 Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11 Pojte Gospodu, koji živi na Sionu; kazujte narodu dela Njegova;
11 Sing praises to Yahweh, who dwells in Zion, and declare among the people what he has done.
12 For he who avenges blood remembers them. He doesn’t forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 Smiluj se na me, Gospode; pogledaj kako stradam od neprijatelja svojih, Ti, koji me podižeš od vrata smrtnih,
13 Ten misericordia de mí, Jehová: mira mi aflicción [que padezco] de los que me aborrecen, tú que me levantas de las puertas de la muerte;
13 Have mercy on me, Yahweh. See my affliction by those who hate me, and lift me up from the gates of death,
14 Da bih kazivao sve hvale Tvoje na vratima kćeri Sionove, i slavio spasenje Tvoje.
14 that I may show all of your praise. I will rejoice in your salvation in the gates of the daughter of Zion.
15 The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken.
(Higaion. Selah.)
16 Yahweh has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah.
17 Vratiće se u pakao bezbožnici, svi narodi koji zaboravljaju Boga;
17 The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.
18 Jer neće svagda biti zaboravljen ubogi, i nada nevoljnicima neće nikad poginuti.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
19 Arise, Yahweh! Don’t let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your sight.
(Selah.)
20 Put them in fear, Yahweh. Let the nations know that they are only men. Selah.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm IX)

    The inscription of this Psalm is, "To the end for the hidden things of the Son, a Psalm of David himself." As to the hidden things of the Son there may be a question: but since he has not added whose, the very only-begotten Son of God should be understood.
