1 Alleluia. Praise ye the name of the Lord; Praise the Lord, [ye his] servants,
135:1 Praise Yah! Praise Yahweh’s name! Praise him, you servants of Yahweh,
2 Who stand in the house of the Lord, In the courts of the house of our God.
135:2 you who stand in Yahweh’s house, in the courts of our God’s house.
3 Praise ye the Lord; for the Lord is good: Sing praises to his name; for [it is] good.
135:3 Praise Yah, for Yahweh is good. Sing praises to his name, for that is pleasant.
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, [And] Israel for his peculiar treasure.
135:4 For Yah has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel for his own possession.
5 For I know that the Lord is great, And our Lord is above all gods;
135:5 For I know that Yahweh is great, that our Lord is above all gods.
6 All that the Lord willed, He did in heaven, and on the earth, In the sea, and in all deeps.
135:6 Whatever Yahweh pleased, that he has done, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
7 Who brings up clouds from the extremity of the earth: He has made lightnings for the rain: He brings winds out of his treasures.
135:7 He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings with the rain. He brings the wind out of his treasuries.
8 Who smote the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and beast.
135:8 He struck the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and animal.
9 He sent signs and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, On Pharaoh, and on all his servants.
135:9 He sent signs and wonders into the middle of you, Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his servants.
10 Who smote many nations, And slew mighty kings;
135:10 He struck many nations, and killed mighty kings—
11 Sihon king of the Amorites, And Og king of Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan:
135:11 Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan—
12 And gave their land [for] an inheritance, An inheritance to Israel his people.
135:12 and gave their land for a heritage, a heritage to Israel, his people.
13 O Lord, thy name [endures] forever, And thy memorial to all generations.
135:13 Your name, Yahweh, endures forever; your renown, Yahweh, throughout all generations.
14 For the Lord shall judge his people, And comfort himself concerning his servants.
135:14 For Yahweh will judge his people and have compassion on his servants.
15 The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, The works of men’s hands.
135:15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
16 They have a mouth, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see;
135:16 They have mouths, but they can’t speak. They have eyes, but they can’t see.
17 They have ears, but they cannot hear; For there is no breath in their mouth.
135:17 They have ears, but they can’t hear, neither is there any breath in their mouths.
18 Let those who make them be made like to them; And all those who trust in them.
135:18 Those who make them will be like them, yes, everyone who trusts in them.
19 O house of Israel, bless ye the Lord: O house of Aaron, bless ye the Lord:
135:19 House of Israel, praise Yahweh! House of Aaron, praise Yahweh!
20 O house of Levi, bless ye the Lord: Ye that fear the Lord, bless the Lord.
135:20 House of Levi, praise Yahweh! You who fear Yahweh, praise Yahweh!
21 Blessed in Zion be the Lord, Who dwells in Jerusalem.
135:21 Blessed be Yahweh from Zion, who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise Yah!

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm CXXXIV)

    (ver. 1), "who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God" (ver. 2). Why has he added, "in the courts"? Courts mean the wider spaces of a house. He who stands in the courts is not straitened, is not confined, in some fashion is enlarged.

  2. Cita 135:5 Augustine of Hippo, Sermons on Selected Lessons of the New Testament (Sermon LXI)

    Lo, the whole world crieth out in the Church of God, "I know that the Lord is great." Yet doubtless there are but few who are saved.

  3. Cita 135:7 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture IX)

    For so many measures of waters lie upon the clouds, yet they are not rent: but come down with all good order upon the earth. Who bringeth the winds out of their treasuries?

  4. Cita 135:6 John of Damascus, An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith (Book II, Chapters XXVI–XXIX)

    For whatsoever the Lord pleased that did He in heaven and in earth, and no one resisted His will.

  5. Cita 135:5 Augustine of Hippo, Sermons on Selected Lessons of the New Testament (Sermon LXI)

    … with how great assurance will the purified mass, standing at the Right Hand, fearing now for itself the admixture of no evil men, nor the loss of any of the good, now about to reign with Christ, say, "I know that the Lord is great"!
