1 Unto the end. For Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.
·
·
2 I cried out to the Lord with my voice, to God with my voice, and he attended to me.
77:1 Al Músico principal: para Jeduthún: Salmo de Asaph. CON mi voz clamé á Dios, á Dios clamé, y él me escuchará.
77:1 For the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm by Asaph. My cry goes to God! Indeed, I cry to God for help, and for him to listen to me.
3 In the days of my tribulation, I sought God, with my hands opposite him in the night, and I was not deceived. My soul refused to be consoled.
77:2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord. My hand was stretched out in the night, and didn’t get tired. My soul refused to be comforted.
4 I was mindful of God, and I was delighted, and I was distressed, and my spirit fell away.
(Selah.)
77:3 I remember God, and I groan. I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah.
5 My eyes anticipated the vigils. I was disturbed, and I did not speak.
77:4 You hold my eyelids open. I am so troubled that I can’t speak.
6 I considered the days of antiquity, and I held the years of eternity in my mind.
77:5 I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
7 And I meditated in the night with my heart, and I was distressed, and I examined my spirit.
77:6 I remember my song in the night. I consider in my own heart; my spirit diligently inquires:
8 So then, will God reject for eternity? Will he not continue to allow himself to show favor?
77:7 “Will the Lord reject us forever? Will he be favorable no more?
9 Or, will he cut off his mercy in the end, from generation to generation?
77:8 Has his loving kindness vanished forever? Does his promise fail for generations?
10 And would God ever forget to be merciful? Or, would he, in his wrath, restrict his mercies?
77:9 ¿Ha olvidado Dios el tener misericordia? ¿ha encerrado con ira sus piedades? (Selah.)
77:9 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?” Selah.
11 And I said, “Now I have begun. This change is from the right hand of the Most High.”
77:10 Then I thought, “I will appeal to this: the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
12 I was mindful of the works of the Lord. For I will be mindful from the beginning of your wonders,
77:11 I will remember Yah’s deeds; for I will remember your wonders of old.
13 and I will meditate on all your works. And I will take part in your intentions.
77:12 I will also meditate on all your work, and consider your doings.
14 Your way, O God, is in what is holy. Which God is great like our God?
77:13 Your way, God, is in the sanctuary. What god is great like God?
15 You are the God who performs miracles. You have made your virtue known among the peoples.
77:14 You are the God who does wonders. You have made your strength known among the peoples.
16 With your arm, you have redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and of Joseph.
(Selah.)
77:15 You have redeemed your people with your arm, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
17 The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you, and they were afraid, and the depths were stirred up.
77:16 The waters saw you, God. The waters saw you, and they writhed. The depths also convulsed.
18 Great was the sound of the waters. The clouds uttered a voice. For your arrows also pass by.
77:17 The clouds poured out water. The skies resounded with thunder. Your arrows also flashed around.
19 The voice of your thunder is like a wheel. Your flashes have illuminated the whole world. The earth has quaked and trembled.
77:18 The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind. The lightnings lit up the world. The earth trembled and shook.
20 Your way is through the sea, and your paths are through many waters. And your traces will not be known.
77:19 Your way was through the sea, your paths through the great waters. Your footsteps were not known.
21 You have conducted your people like sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
77:20 You led your people like a flock, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LXXVI)

The Jews are wont to glory in this Psalm which we have sung, saying, "Known in Judæa is God, in Israel great is the name of Him:" and to revile the Gentiles to whom God is not known, and to say that to themselves alone God is known; seeing that the Prophet saith, "Known in Judæa is God." In other …

  2. Cita 77:9 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XXI, Chapters 17–19)

The verse runs: "Shall God forget to be gracious? Shall He in anger shut up His tender mercies?" His anger, they say, would condemn all that are unworthy of everlasting happiness to endless punishment.

And pray do not again understand by this guidance some humble service, for the Word witnesses that it was the work of God;--"Thou leddest thy people," it is said "like a flock," and "Thou that leadest Joseph like a flock," and "He led them on safely, so …

shall He shut up in His anger His tender mercies" as if the sentence of God were true of good men, false of bad men, or true of good men and wicked angels, but false of bad men.
