FBV Free Bible Version (Versión Biblia Libre en inglés) WEB World English Bible (clásica, con deuterocanónicos) 1 Listen, people of Israel! Shortly you're going to cross the Jordan to enter and take over the country from nations that are larger and stronger than you, that have large towns with walls that reach up into the sky.
1 Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,
2 The people are strong and tall; they are the descendants of the Anakim. You all know about them and you have heard the saying, “Who could ever defeat the sons of Anak?” 2 Un pueblo grande y alto, hijos de gigantes, de los cuales tienes tú conocimiento, y has oído decir: ¿Quién se sostendrá delante de los hijos del gigante?
2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, “Who can stand before the sons of Anak?”
3 But you should realize that today the Lord your God is going across ahead of you. He is like a consuming fire; he will destroy them and defeat them ahead of you. You will drive them out and quickly wipe them out, just as the Lord promised you.
3 Know therefore today that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them and he will bring them down before you. So you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.
4 When the Lord your God has driven them out ahead of you, don't say to yourselves, “It's because I'm such a good person that the Lord has brought me here to take over this land.” No, the Lord is driving out these nations ahead of you because they're so wicked.
4 Don’t say in your heart, after Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you, “For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land;” because Yahweh drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.
5 It's not because you're so good or moral that you're going to take over their land. No, it's because of their wickedness that the Lord your God is driving out these nations ahead of you, to keep the promise he made to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
5 Not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
6 You'd better believe that it's not because you're such good people that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to own, because you are stubborn, hard-hearted people.
6 Know therefore that Yahweh your God doesn’t give you this good land to possess for your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.
7 Remember how you provoked the Lord your God in the desert! Don't ever forget it! From the time you left the land of Egypt until you arrived here, you've been constantly rebelling against the Lord.
7 Remember, and don’t forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.
8 At Horeb you provoked the Lord, making him so angry he was about to destroy you.
8 Also in Horeb you provoked Yahweh to wrath, and Yahweh was angry with you to destroy you.
9 This was when I climbed up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets that recorded the agreement the Lord made with you. I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, and I didn't eat or drink anything.
9 When I had gone up onto the mountain to receive the stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.
10 The Lord gave me the two stone tablets on which he'd written with his finger everything he'd told you when he spoke from the fire on the mountain when we were all assembled there.
10 Yahweh delivered to me the two stone tablets written with God’s finger. On them were all the words which Yahweh spoke with you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly.
11 After forty days and forty nights, the Lord gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the agreement.
11 It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights that Yahweh gave me the two stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant.
12 The Lord told me, “Hurry! Go down immediately, because your people that you led out of Egypt, are committing a terrible sin. They have disobeyed what I told them so quickly! They have made themselves an idol using molten metal.” 12 Y díjome Jehová: Levántate, desciende presto de aquí; que tu pueblo que sacaste de Egipto se ha corrompido: pronto se han apartado del camino que yo les mandé: hanse hecho una efigie de fundición.
12 Yahweh said to me, “Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned away from the way which I commanded them. They have made a molten image for themselves!”
13 The Lord also told me, “I have been watching these people, and they really are stubborn and hard-hearted. 13 Y hablóme Jehová, diciendo: He visto ese pueblo, y he aquí, que él es pueblo duro de cerviz:
13 Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
14 Leave me, so that I can destroy them and wipe out their name completely. Then I will turn you into a nation even more powerful and more important than them.” 14 Déjame que los destruya, y raiga su nombre de debajo del cielo; que yo te pondré sobre gente fuerte y mucha más que ellos.
14 Leave me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”
15 I went back down the mountain while it was still on fire, carrying the two tablets of the agreement.
15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire. The two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.
16 Then I saw how much you had sinned against the Lord your God by making for yourselves a molten calf. You had disobeyed what the Lord had told you so quickly.
16 I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God. You had made yourselves a molded calf. You had quickly turned away from the way which Yahweh had commanded you.
17 I threw the two tablets down, smashing them to pieces as you watched.
17 I took hold of the two tablets, and threw them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
18 Then I lay down on the ground before the Lord for forty days and forty nights, just as I had before. I didn't eat or drink anything because of all the sins you had committed by doing what was evil in the Lord's sight, making him angry.
18 I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger.
19 I was terrified at how angry and furious the Lord was with you. He was ready to destroy you. But once again the Lord listened to me. 19 Porque temí á causa del furor y de la ira con que Jehová estaba enojado contra vosotros para destruiros. Pero Jehová me oyó aún esta vez.
19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.
20 The Lord was so angry with Aaron he was ready to destroy him, but right then I prayed for Aaron too.
20 Yahweh was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
21 I took that abominable thing, the calf you'd made, and burned it. Then I crushed it up and ground it into dust, and I threw it into the stream that descended from the mountain.
21 I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
22 But you went on provoking the Lord at Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah.
22 At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked Yahweh to wrath.
23 When the Lord had you leave Kadesh-barnea, he told you, “Go and take over the country that I've given you.” But you defied the command of the Lord your God. You didn't believe him and you didn't obey him.
23 When Yahweh sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, “Go up and possess the land which I have given you,” you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God, and you didn’t believe him or listen to his voice.
24 You have been rebelling against the Lord from the day I first knew you.
24 You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day that I knew you.
25 So I lay down on the ground before the Lord for forty days and forty nights, because the Lord had threatened to destroy you.
25 So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.
26 I prayed to the Lord, saying, “Please Lord, God, don't destroy your people that belong to you, the ones whom you rescued by your great ability and led out of Egypt by your power. 26 Y oré á Jehová, diciendo: Oh Señor Jehová, no destruyas tu pueblo y tu heredad que has redimido con tu grandeza, al cual sacaste de Egipto con mano fuerte.
26 I prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Lord Yahweh, don’t destroy your people and your inheritance that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27 Please remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Please disregard the stubbornness of this people and their wicked sin.
27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Don’t look at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin,
28 If you don't, those people back in Egypt will say, ‘The Lord brought them out to kill them in the desert because he couldn't take them to the land he'd promised them, and because he hated them.’ 28 Porque no digan [los de] la tierra de donde nos sacaste: Por cuanto no pudo Jehová introducirlos en la tierra que les había dicho, ó porque los aborrecía, los sacó para matarlos en el desierto.
28 lest the land you brought us out from say, ‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’
29 But they are your people, Lord! They belong to you! You led them out of Egypt by your amazing power and might!” 29 Y ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad, que sacaste con tu gran fortaleza y con tu brazo extendido.
29 Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”
