PT1904 Texto Patriarcal 1904 (acentuado, edición de eBible)
1 And there was a certain one ailing, Lazarus, from Bethany, of the village of Mary and Martha her sister—
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.
2 and it was Mary who anointed the LORD with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ailing—
2 It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
3 therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You cherish is ailing”;
3 The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”
4 and Jesus having heard, said, “This ailment is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
4 But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”
5 And Jesus was loving Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus,
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 when, therefore, He heard that he is ailing, then indeed He remained in the place in which He was two days,
6 When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.
7 then after this, He says to the disciples, “We may go to Judea again”;
7 Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”
8 the disciples say to Him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just seeking to stone You, and again You go there?”
8 The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”
8 λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί· ῥαββί, νῦν ἐζήτουν σε λιθάσαι οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι, καὶ πάλιν ὑπάγεις ἐκεῖ;
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone may walk in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world;
9 Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
10 and if anyone may walk in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”
10 But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”
11 He said these things, and after this He says to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go on that I may awake him”;
11 He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”
12 therefore His disciples said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will be saved”;
12 The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”
13 but Jesus had spoken about his death, but they thought that He speaks about the repose of sleep.
13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.
14 Then, therefore, Jesus said to them freely, “Lazarus has died;
14 So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.
15 and I rejoice, for your sake (that you may believe), that I was not there; but we may go to him”;
15 I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”
16 therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to the fellow-disciples, “We may go—we also, that we may die with Him,”
16 Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”
17 Jesus, therefore, having come, found him having already been four days in the tomb.
17 So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
18 And Bethany was near to Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia off,
18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.
19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, that they might comfort them concerning their brother;
19 Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
20 Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus comes, met Him, and Mary kept sitting in the house.
20 Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.
21 Martha, therefore, said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother had not died;
21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.
22 but even now, I have known that whatever You may ask of God, God will give to You”;
22 Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”
23 Jesus says to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha says to Him, “I have known that he will rise again in the resurrection in the last day”;
24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I AM the resurrection, and the life; he who is believing in Me, even if he may die, will live;
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
26 and everyone who is living and believing in Me will not die—throughout the age;
26 Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
26 ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ, κἂν ἀποθάνῃ, ζήσεται· καὶ πᾶς ὁ ζῶν καὶ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. πιστεύεις τοῦτο;
27 do you believe this?” She says to Him, “Yes, Lord, I have believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”
28 And having said these things, she went away, and called Mary her sister privately, saying, “The Teacher is present, and calls you”;
28 When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”
29 she, when she heard, rises up quickly, and comes to Him;
29 When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.
30 and Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met Him;
30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.
31 the Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house, and were comforting her, having seen Mary that she rose up quickly and went forth, followed her, saying, “She goes away to the tomb, that she may weep there.”
31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”
32 Mary, therefore, when she came where Jesus was, having seen Him, fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother had not died”;
32 Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
33 Jesus, therefore, when He saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, groaned in the spirit, and troubled Himself, and He said,
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled,
34 “Where have you laid him?” They say to Him, “Lord, come and see”;
34 and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”
35 Jesus wept.
35 Jesus wept.
36 The Jews, therefore, said, “Behold, how He was cherishing him!”
36 The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”
37 And certain of them said, “Was not this One, who opened the eyes of the blind man, also able to cause that this one might not have died?”
37 Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”
37 τινὲς δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶπον· οὐκ ἠδύνατο οὗτος, ὁ ἀνοίξας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τοῦ τυφλοῦ, ποιῆσαι ἵνα καὶ οὗτος μὴ ἀποθάνῃ;
38 Jesus, therefore, again groaning in Himself, comes to the tomb, and it was a cave, and a stone was lying on it,
38 Jesus therefore, again groaning in himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
39 Jesus says, “Take away the stone”; the sister of him who has died—Martha—says to Him, “Lord, he already stinks, for he is four days dead”;
39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
40 Jesus says to her, “Did I not say to you that if you may believe, you will see the glory of God?”
40 Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”
40 λέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· οὐκ εἶπόν σοι ὅτι ἐὰν πιστεύσῃς, ὄψει τὴν δόξαν τοῦ Θεοῦ;
41 Therefore they took away the stone where the dead was laid, and Jesus lifted His eyes upwards, and said, “Father, I thank You that You heard Me;
41 So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.
42 and I knew that You always hear Me, but because of the multitude that is standing by, I said [it], that they may believe that You sent Me.”
42 I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”
43 And saying these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”
43 When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
44 And he who died came forth, feet and hands being bound with grave-clothes, and his face was bound around with a napkin; Jesus says to them, “Loose him, and permit to go.”
44 He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”
45 Many, therefore, of the Jews who came to Mary, and beheld what Jesus did, believed in Him;
45 Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.
46 but certain of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus did;
46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.
47 the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together [the] Sanhedrin and said, “What may we do? Because this Man does many signs?
47 The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
47 συνήγαγον οὖν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συνέδριον καὶ ἔλεγον· τί ποιοῦμεν, ὅτι οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος πολλὰ σημεῖα ποιεῖ;
48 If we may leave Him alone thus, all will believe in Him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.”
48 If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
49 And a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being chief priest of that year, said to them, “You have not known anything,
49 But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,
50 nor reason that it is good for us that one man may die for the people, and not the whole nation perish.”
50 nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”
51 And he did not say this of himself, but being chief priest of that year, he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation,
51 Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
52 and not for the nation only, but that also the children of God, who have been scattered abroad, He may gather together into one.
52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
53 From that day, therefore, they took counsel together that they may kill Him;
53 So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.
54 Jesus, therefore, was no longer freely walking among the Jews, but went away from there into the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there He tarried with His disciples.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples.
55 And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the Passover, that they might purify themselves;
55 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
56 therefore they were seeking Jesus and said with one another, standing in the temple, “What appears to you—that He may not come to the celebration?”
56 Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”
56 ἐζήτουν οὖν τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἔλεγον μετ᾽ ἀλλήλων ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἑστηκότες· τί δοκεῖ ὑμῖν, ὅτι οὐ μὴ ἔλθῃ εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν;
57 And both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone may know where He is, he may show [it], so that they may seize Him.
57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.

  1. Comentario 11:1 Augustine of Hippo, Tractates on the Gospel of John (Chapter XI — 1-54)

  2. Comentario 11:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of John (Homily LXII)

  3. Cita 11:54 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book II, Chapter XXI)

    Then, when He had raised Lazarus from the dead, and plots were formed against Him by the Pharisees, He withdrew to a city called Ephraim; and from that place, as it is written "He came to Bethany six days before the passover," and going up from Bethany to Jerusalem, He there ate the passover, and suffered on the day following.

  4. Cita 11:15 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XIV, Chapter 9)

    When, therefore, we read in the Gospel that the hard-heartedness of the Jews moved Him to sorrowful indignation, that He said, "I am glad for your sakes, to the intent ye may believe," that when about to raise Lazarus He even shed tears, that He earnestly desired to eat the passover with His disciples, that as His passion drew near …

  5. Cita 11:42 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily XVI)

    … Lazarus, added also a prayer; and then, lest this should make Him appear less than Him that begat Him, He, to correct this suspicion, added, "I said these things, because of the people which standeth by, that they may believe that thou hast sent me." And neither doth He work all things as one who acted by His own power, …
