1 Pero se dio el caso de un hombre llamado Ananías, esposo de Safira, que vendió cierta propiedad,
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
1 Ἀνὴρ δέ τις Ἀνανίας ὀνόματι σὺν Σαπφείρῃ τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπώλησε κτῆμα
2 pero entregó sólo una parte del dinero a los apóstoles y se quedó con el resto. Su esposa, desde luego, estaba enterada de todo.
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, then brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
2 καὶ ἐνοσφίσατο ἀπὸ τῆς τιμῆς, συνειδυίας καὶ τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐνέγκας μέρος τι παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τῶν ἀποστόλων ἔθηκεν.
3 ―Ananías —lo reprendió Pedro—, ¿por qué has permitido que Satanás te llene el corazón? ¿Por qué dices que este es el importe total de la venta? Le estás mintiendo al Espíritu Santo.
3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land?
3 εἶπε δὲ Πέτρος· Ἀνανία, διατί ἐπλήρωσεν ὁ σατανᾶς τὴν καρδίαν σου, ψεύσασθαί σε τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον καὶ νοσφίσασθαι ἀπὸ τῆς τιμῆς τοῦ χωρίου;
4 ¿Acaso no era tuya esa propiedad antes de venderla? Y una vez vendida, ¿no era tuyo el dinero? ¿Por qué has hecho esto? No nos has mentido a nosotros, sino a Dios.
4 While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”
4 οὐχὶ μένον σοι ἔμενε καὶ πραθὲν ἐν τῇ σῇ ἐξουσίᾳ ὑπῆρχε; τί ὅτι ἔθου ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο; οὐκ ἐψεύσω ἀνθρώποις, ἀλλὰ τῷ Θεῷ.
5 Al escuchar estas palabras, Ananías cayó al suelo y murió, y un gran temor se apoderó de los que escucharon esto.
5 Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. Great fear came on all who heard these things.
5 ἀκούων δὲ ὁ Ἀνανίας τοὺς λόγους τούτους πεσὼν ἐξέψυξε, καὶ ἐγένετο φόβος μέγας ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀκούοντας ταῦτα.
6 Los jóvenes cubrieron entonces el cadáver con una sábana y salieron a enterrarlo.
6 The young men arose and wrapped him up, and they carried him out and buried him.
6 ἀναστάντες δὲ οἱ νεώτεροι συνέστειλαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξενέγκαντες ἔθαψαν.
7 Como tres horas más tarde, llegó la esposa, sin saber lo ocurrido.
7 About three hours later, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
7 Ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ὡρῶν τριῶν διάστημα καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ, μὴ εἰδυῖα τὸ γεγονός, εἰσῆλθεν.
8 ―¿Vendiste el terreno en tal precio? —le preguntó Pedro. ―Sí —respondió.
8 Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” She said, “Yes, for so much.”
8 ἀπεκρίθη δὲ αὐτῇ ὁ Πέτρος· εἰπέ μοι, εἰ τοσούτου τὸ χωρίον ἀπέδοσθε; ἡ δὲ εἶπε· ναί, τοσούτου.
9 Le dijo Pedro: —¿Por qué se pusieron de acuerdo para poner a prueba al Espíritu del Señor? Detrás de esa puerta están los jóvenes que acaban de enterrar a tu esposo y ahora te sacarán también a ti.
9 But Peter asked her, “How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
9 ὁ δὲ Πέτρος εἶπε πρὸς αὐτήν· τί ὅτι συνεφωνήθη ὑμῖν πειράσαι τὸ Πνεῦμα Κυρίου; ἰδοὺ οἱ πόδες τῶν θαψάντων τὸν ἄνδρα σου ἐπὶ τῇ θύρᾳ καὶ ἐξοίσουσί σε.
10 Instantáneamente cayó al suelo muerta. Los jóvenes entraron y, al verla muerta, la sacaron y la enterraron junto a su esposo.
10 She fell down immediately at his feet and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.
10 ἔπεσε δὲ παραχρῆμα παρὰ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξέψυξεν· εἰσελθόντες δὲ οἱ νεανίσκοι εὗρον αὐτὴν νεκράν, καὶ ἐξενέγκαντες ἔθαψαν πρὸς τὸν ἄνδρα αὐτῆς.
11 Un gran terror se apoderó de toda la iglesia y de todas las personas que se enteraron de lo que había pasado.
11 Great fear came on the whole assembly, and on all who heard these things.
11 καὶ ἐγένετο φόβος μέγας ἐφ᾽ ὅλην τὴν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀκούοντας ταῦτα.
12 Los apóstoles siguieron reuniéndose regularmente en el portal de Salomón, y por medio de ellos Dios siguió realizando milagros extraordinarios entre el pueblo.
12 By the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. They were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
12 Διὰ δὲ τῶν χειρῶν τῶν ἀποστόλων ἐγίνετο σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ἐν τῷ λαῷ πολλά· καὶ ἦσαν ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἅπαντες ἐν τῇ στοᾷ Σολομῶντος·
13 Aunque ninguno de los otros se atrevía a unírseles, a pesar del alto aprecio que les tenían,
13 None of the rest dared to join them; however, the people honored them.
13 τῶν δὲ λοιπῶν οὐδεὶς ἐτόλμα κολλᾶσθαι αὐτοῖς, ἀλλ᾽ ἐμεγάλυνεν αὐτοὺς ὁ λαός·
14 el número de hombres y mujeres que creían en el Señor aumentaba más y más.
14 More believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women.
14 μᾶλλον δὲ προσετίθεντο πιστεύοντες τῷ Κυρίῳ πλήθη ἀνδρῶν τε καὶ γυναικῶν,
15 La gente colocaba a los enfermos en las calles en colchonetas y camillas para que al menos la sombra de Pedro los tocara.
15 They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mattresses, so that as Peter came by, at least his shadow might overshadow some of them.
15 ὥστε κατὰ τὰς πλατείας ἐκφέρειν τοὺς ἀσθενεῖς καὶ τιθέναι ἐπὶ κλινῶν καὶ κραβάττων, ἵνα ἐρχομένου Πέτρου κἂν ἡ σκιὰ ἐπισκιάσῃ τινὶ αὐτῶν.
16 Grandes multitudes acudían de los suburbios de Jerusalén trayendo enfermos y endemoniados, y todos eran sanados.
16 The multitude also came together from the cities around Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
16 συνήρχετο δὲ καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν πέριξ πόλεων εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ φέροντες ἀσθενεῖς καὶ ὀχλουμένους ὑπὸ πνευμάτων ἀκαθάρτων, οἵτινες ἐθεραπεύοντο ἅπαντες.
17 El sumo sacerdote y sus colegas de la secta de los saduceos reaccionaron con envidia,
17 But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy
17 Ἀναστὰς δὲ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς καὶ πάντες οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ, ἡ οὖσα αἵρεσις τῶν Σαδδουκαίων, ἐπλήσθησαν ζήλου
18 y arrestaron a los apóstoles y los metieron en la cárcel.
18 and laid hands on the apostles, then put them in public custody.
18 καὶ ἐπέβαλον τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀποστόλους, καὶ ἔθεντο αὐτοὺς ἐν τηρήσει δημοσίᾳ.
19 Pero un ángel del Señor abrió de noche las puertas de la cárcel y los sacó de allí.
19 But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out and said,
19 ἄγγελος δὲ Κυρίου διὰ τῆς νυκτὸς ἤνοιξε τὰς θύρας τῆς φυλακῆς, ἐξαγαγών τε αὐτοὺς εἶπε·
20 ―Vayan al templo y prediquen acerca de la Vida —les ordenó el ángel.
20 “Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”
20 πορεύεσθε, καὶ σταθέντες λαλεῖτε ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τῷ λαῷ πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τῆς ζωῆς ταύτης.
21 Llegaron, pues, al templo al rayar el día, e inmediatamente se pusieron a enseñar. Aquella misma mañana el sumo sacerdote llegó con los que estaban con él y, tras reunir al concilio y a todos los ancianos de Israel, ordenó que trajeran de la cárcel a los apóstoles.
21 When they heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and taught. But the high priest and those who were with him came and called the council together, with all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
21 ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἰσῆλθον ὑπὸ τὸν ὄρθρον εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ ἐδίδασκον. παραγενόμενος δὲ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ συνεκάλεσαν τὸ συνέδριον καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γερουσίαν τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον ἀχθῆναι αὐτούς.
22 Pero cuando los guardias llegaron a la cárcel no los encontraron allí, y regresaron a notificarlo.
22 But the officers who came didn’t find them in the prison. They returned and reported,
22 οἱ δὲ ὑπηρέται παραγενόμενοι οὐχ εὗρον αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ, ἀναστρέψαντες δὲ ἀπήγγειλαν
23 ―Las puertas de la cárcel estaban cerradas —dijeron— y los guardias estaban fuera, pero al abrir la puerta no encontramos a nadie.
23 “We found the prison shut and locked, and the guards standing before the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”
23 λέγοντες ὅτι τὸ μὲν δεσμωτήριον εὕρομεν κεκλεισμένον ἐν πάσῃ ἀσφαλείᾳ καὶ τοὺς φύλακας ἑστῶτας πρὸ τῶν θυρῶν, ἀνοίξαντες δὲ ἔσω οὐδένα εὕρομεν.
24 Después de escuchar esto, el jefe de la guardia y los principales sacerdotes estaban confundidos y se preguntaban a dónde iría a parar todo aquello.
24 Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about them and what might become of this.
24 ὡς δὲ ἤκουσαν τοὺς λόγους τούτους ὅ τε ἱερεὺς καὶ ὁ στρατηγὸς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς, διηπόρουν περὶ αὐτῶν τί ἂν γένοιτο τοῦτο.
25 En ese preciso instante, llegó uno con la noticia de que los prisioneros estaban en el templo enseñándole al pueblo.
25 One came and told them, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”
25 παραγενόμενος δέ τις ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι ἰδοὺ οἱ ἄνδρες, οὓς ἔθεσθε ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ, εἰσὶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἑστῶτες καὶ διδάσκοντες τὸν λαόν.
26 El jefe de la guardia corrió con los alguaciles a arrestarlos, sin hacer uso de la fuerza, por temor a que el pueblo los apedreara.
26 Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence, for they were afraid that the people might stone them.
26 τότε ἀπελθὼν ὁ στρατηγὸς σὺν τοῖς ὑπηρέταις ἤγαγεν αὐτοὺς οὐ μετὰ βίας· ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν, ἵνα μὴ λιθασθῶσιν·
27 Los condujeron ante el concilio, y el sumo sacerdote los reconvino:
27 When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them,
27 ἀγαγόντες δὲ αὐτοὺς ἔστησαν ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ. καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς
28 ―¿No les habíamos prohibido que volvieran a enseñar acerca de Jesús? Ustedes han llenado a Jerusalén de sus enseñanzas y tratan de descargar en nosotros la culpa de la muerte de ese hombre.
28 saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”
28 λέγων· οὐ παραγγελίᾳ παρηγγείλαμεν ὑμῖν μὴ διδάσκειν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ; καὶ ἰδοὺ πεπληρώκατε τὴν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τῆς διδαχῆς ὑμῶν, καὶ βούλεσθε ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς τὸ αἷμα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου.
29 ―Tenemos que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres —respondieron Pedro y los apóstoles—.
29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
29 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Πέτρος καὶ οἱ ἀπόστολοι εἶπον· πειθαρχεῖν δεῖ Θεῷ μᾶλλον ἢ ἀνθρώποις.
30 El Dios de nuestros antepasados resucitó a Jesús, al que ustedes mataron colgándolo en una cruz.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree.
30 ὁ Θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν ἤγειρεν Ἰησοῦν, ὃν ὑμεῖς διεχειρίσασθε κρεμάσαντες ἐπὶ ξύλου·
31 Luego, con su gran poder, lo exaltó como Príncipe y Salvador, para que el pueblo de Israel se vuelva a Dios y alcance el perdón de sus pecados.
31 God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.
31 τοῦτον ὁ Θεὸς ἀρχηγὸν καὶ σωτῆρα ὕψωσε τῇ δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ δοῦναι μετάνοιαν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν.
32 Nosotros somos testigos de esas cosas, y también lo es el Espíritu Santo que Dios ha concedido a los que lo obedecen.
32 We are his witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
32 καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν αὐτοῦ μάρτυρες τῶν ῥημάτων τούτων, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα δὲ τὸ Ἅγιον ὃ ἔδωκεν ὁ Θεὸς τοῖς πειθαρχοῦσιν αὐτῷ.
33 Al oírlos, los miembros del concilio, rabiando de furia, querían matarlos.
33 But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were determined to kill them.
33 οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες διεπρίοντο καὶ ἐβουλεύοντο ἀνελεῖν αὐτούς.
34 Pero uno de ellos, un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, experto en cuestiones de la ley y muy respetado entre el pueblo, pidió la palabra y solicitó que sacaran a los apóstoles del salón.
34 But one stood up in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, honored by all the people, and commanded to put the apostles out for a little while.
34 Ἀναστὰς δέ τις ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ Φαρισαῖος ὀνόματι Γαμαλιήλ, νομοδιδάσκαλος τίμιος παντὶ τῷ λαῷ, ἐκέλευσεν ἔξω βραχύ τι τοὺς ἀποστόλους ποιῆσαι,
35 Entonces se dirigió a ellos con las siguientes palabras: ―Varones de Israel, mediten bien lo que van a hacer con estos hombres.
35 He said to them, “You men of Israel, be careful concerning these men, what you are about to do.
35 εἶπέ τε πρὸς αὐτούς· ἄνδρες Ἰσραηλῖται, προσέχετε ἑαυτοῖς ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνθρώποις τούτοις τί μέλλετε πράσσειν.
36 Hace algún tiempo se levantó con sueños de grandeza un tal Teudas, al que se le unieron unas cuatrocientas personas; pero murió asesinado y los seguidores se dispersaron sin provocar mayores dolores de cabeza.
36 For before these days Theudas rose up, making himself out to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves. He was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed and came to nothing.
36 πρὸ γὰρ τούτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀνέστη Θευδᾶς, λέγων εἶναί τινα ἑαυτόν, ᾧ προσεκλίθη ἀριθμὸς ἀνδρῶν ὡσεὶ τετρακοσίων· ὃς ἀνῃρέθη, καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπείθοντο αὐτῷ διελύθησαν καὶ ἐγένοντο εἰς οὐδέν.
37 Después de este, durante los días del censo, surgió Judas de Galilea, quien logró que muchas personas se hicieran discípulos suyos; pero también lo mataron y sus seguidores se dispersaron.
37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrollment, and drew away some people after him. He also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.
37 μετὰ τοῦτον ἀνέστη Ἰούδας ὁ Γαλιλαῖος ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τῆς ἀπογραφῆς καὶ ἀπέστησε λαὸν ἱκανὸν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ· κἀκεῖνος ἀπώλετο, καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπείθοντο αὐτῷ διεσκορπίσθησαν.
38 Por lo tanto, recomiendo que dejen tranquilos a estos hombres. Si lo que enseñan y hacen obedece a impulsos personales, pronto se desvanecerá.
38 Now I tell you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or this work is of men, it will be overthrown.
38 καὶ τὰ νῦν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀπόστητε ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων τούτων καὶ ἐάσατε αὐτούς· ὅτι ἐὰν ᾖ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων ἡ βουλὴ αὕτη ἢ τὸ ἔργον τοῦτο, καταλυθήσεται·
39 Mas si es de Dios, ustedes no podrán detenerlos. ¡No sea que descubran que han estado peleando contra Dios!
39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and you would be found even to be fighting against God!”
39 εἰ δὲ ἐκ Θεοῦ ἐστιν, οὐ δύνασθε καταλῦσαι αὐτό, μή ποτε καὶ θεομάχοι εὑρεθῆτε.
40 El concilio aceptó la recomendación, llamó a los apóstoles y, después de azotarlos, les exigieron que no volvieran a hablar en el nombre de Jesús. Finalmente, los pusieron en libertad.
40 They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
40 ἐπείσθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ, καὶ προσκαλεσάμενοι τοὺς ἀποστόλους δείραντες παρήγγειλαν μὴ λαλεῖν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, καὶ ἀπέλυσαν αὐτούς.
41 Al salir del concilio, los discípulos iban gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de sufrir ultrajes por la causa del Nombre.
41 They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus’ name.
41 οἱ μὲν οὖν ἐπορεύοντο χαίροντες ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ συνεδρίου, ὅτι ὑπὲρ τοῦ ὀνόματος αὐτοῦ κατηξιώθησαν ἀτιμασθῆναι·
42 Y siguieron enseñando y predicando todos los días en el templo y de casa en casa, que Jesús era el Mesías.
42 Every day, in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and preaching Jesus, the Christ.
42 πᾶσάν τε ἡμέραν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ κατ᾽ οἶκον οὐκ ἐπαύοντο διδάσκοντες καὶ εὐαγγελιζόμενοι Ἰησοῦν τὸν Χριστόν.

«Comentario» es el comienzo de una homilía o exposición sobre este capítulo (homilías de san Juan Crisóstomo; tratados, sermones y comentarios a los Salmos de san Agustín). «Cita» es una frase en la que las notas de la propia edición identifican la cita de un versículo de este capítulo; solo se conserva si el texto coincide con el versículo. Solo se usan obras de autoría segura. Los Salmos siguen la numeración hebrea (Agustín usa la de los Setenta: su Salmo 50 es aquí el 51).
