WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 Some time later Jesus left to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (also known as the Sea of Tiberias). 1 PASADAS estas cosas, fuése Jesús de la otra parte de la mar de Galilea, [que es] de Tiberias.
1 After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.
2 A large crowd was following him, for they'd seen his miracles of healing.
2 A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick.
3 Jesus went up a hill and sat down there with his disciples.
3 Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.
4 The time for the Jewish festival of the Passover was approaching.
4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.
5 When Jesus looked up, and saw a large crowd coming towards him, he asked Philip, “Where can we buy bread to feed these people?” 5 Y como alzó Jesús los ojos, y vió que había venido á él grande multitud, dice á Felipe: ¿De dónde compraremos pan para que coman éstos?
5 Jesus therefore, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?”
6 He only asked this to see how Philip would respond, because Jesus already knew what he was going to do. 6 Mas esto decía para probarle; porque él sabía lo que había de hacer.
6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
7 “Two hundred silver coins wouldn't buy enough bread to give everyone only a little,” Philip replied.
7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.”
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. 8 Dícele uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro:
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,
9 “There's a boy here who has five barley loaves and a couple of fish, but what good is that when there are so many people?” 9 Un muchacho está aquí que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pececillos; ¿mas qué es esto entre tantos?
9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”
10 “Have everybody sit down,” Jesus said. There was plenty of grass there, so they all sat down, the men numbering around five thousand.
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 Jesus took the bread, gave thanks, and had it handed out to the people as they sat there. Then he did the same with the fishes, making sure the people had as much as they wanted.
11 Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down, likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
12 Once they were all full, he said to his disciples, “Collect what's left over so nothing is wasted.” 12 Y como fueron saciados, dijo á sus discípulos: Recoged los pedazos que han quedado, porque no se pierda nada.
12 When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”
13 So they collected and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves the people had eaten.
13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.
14 When the people saw this miracle, they said, “Surely this is the Prophet who was to come into the world.” 14 Aquellos hombres entonces, como vieron la señal que Jesús había hecho, decían: Este verdaderamente es el profeta que había de venir al mundo.
14 When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”
15 Jesus realized that they were about to force him to become their king, so he left them and went up into the hills to be by himself.
15 Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 16 Y como se hizo tarde, descendieron sus discípulos á la mar;
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.
17 climbed into a boat, and headed across the water towards Capernaum. By now it was night and Jesus had not joined them yet.
17 They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
18 A strong wind began blowing and the sea grew rough.
18 The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.
19 When they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, coming towards the boat. They were very frightened.
19 When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.
20 “Don't be afraid!” he told them. “It's me.” 20 Mas él les dijo: Yo soy; no tengáis miedo.
20 But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
21 Then they gladly took him into the boat, and immediately they reached the shore where they were going.
21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea noticed that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not got into the boat with his disciples, but they had left without him. 22 El día siguiente, la gente que estaba de la otra parte de la mar, como vió que no había allí otra navecilla sino una, y que Jesús no había entrado con sus discípulos en ella, sino que sus discípulos se habían ido solos;
22 On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.
23 Then other boats arrived from Tiberias, landing near to the place where they'd eaten the bread after the Lord had blessed it. 23 Y que otras navecillas habían arribado de Tiberias junto al lugar donde habían comido el pan después de haber el Señor dado gracias;
23 However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went over to Capernaum, looking for Jesus.
24 When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” 25 Y hallándole de la otra parte de la mar, dijéronle: Rabbí, ¿cuándo llegaste acá?
25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”
26 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “you're looking for me because you ate as much bread as you wanted, not because you understood the miracles. 26 Respondióles Jesús, y dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo, que me buscáis, no porque habéis visto las señales, sino porque comisteis el pan y os hartasteis.
26 Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27 Don't be preoccupied about food that doesn't last, but concentrate on the lasting food of eternal life which the Son of man will give you, for God the Father has placed his seal of approval on him.” 27 Trabajad no por la comida que perece, mas por la comida que á vida eterna permanece, la cual el Hijo del hombre os dará: porque á éste señaló el Padre, [que es] Dios.
27 Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.”
28 So they asked him, “What should we be doing in order to do what God wants?” 28 Y dijéronle: ¿Qué haremos para que obremos las obras de Dios?
28 They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus replied, “What God wants you to do is to trust in the one he sent.” 29 Respondió Jesús, y díjoles: Esta es la obra de Dios, que creáis en el que él ha enviado.
29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
30 “What miracle are you going to perform for us to see so we can trust you? What are you able to do?” they asked.
30 They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?
31 “Our forefathers ate manna in the desert in fulfillment of the Scripture that says, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 31 Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, como está escrito: Pan del cielo les dió á comer.
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”
32 “I tell you the truth, it wasn't Moses who gave you bread from heaven,” Jesus replied. “It's my Father who gives you the true bread of heaven. 32 Y Jesús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: No os dió Moisés pan del cielo; mas mi Padre os da el verdadero pan del cielo.
32 Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
33 For the bread of God is the one who comes from heaven and gives life to the world.” 33 Porque el pan de Dios es aquel que descendió del cielo y da vida al mundo.
33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Lord, please give us this kind of bread all the time!” they said. 34 Y dijéronle: Señor, danos siempre este pan.
34 They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”
35 “I am the bread of life,” Jesus replied. “Anyone who comes to me will never be hungry again, and anyone who trusts in me will never be thirsty again. 35 Y Jesús les dijo: Yo soy el pan de vida: el que á mí viene, nunca tendrá hambre; y el que en mí cree, no tendrá sed jamás.
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
36 But as I explained to you before, you have seen me, but you still don't trust me. 36 Mas os he dicho, que aunque me habéis visto, no creéis.
36 But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.
37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and I won't reject any of them. 37 Todo lo que el Padre me da, vendrá á mí; y al que á mí viene, no [le] hecho fuera.
37 All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
38 For I came down from heaven not to do what I want, but to do what the one who sent me wants.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
39 What he wants is for me not to lose anyone he has given to me, but for me to raise them up at the last day.
39 This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.
40 What my Father wants is for everyone who sees the Son and trusts in him to have eternal life, and for me to raise them up at the last day.” 40 Y esta es la voluntad del que me ha enviado: Que todo aquel que ve al Hijo, y cree en él, tenga vida eterna: y yo le resucitaré en el día postrero.
40 This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
41 Then the Jews began to grumble about him because he had said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 41 Murmuraban entonces de él los Judíos, porque había dicho: Yo soy el pan que descendí del cielo.
41 The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down out of heaven.”
42 They said, “Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and his mother. So how can he now tell us, ‘I came down from heaven’?” 42 Y decían: ¿No es éste Jesús, el hijo de José, cuyo padre y madre nosotros conocemos? ¿cómo, pues, dice éste: Del cielo he descendido?
42 They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?”
43 “Stop grumbling to each other,” Jesus said. 43 Y Jesús respondió, y díjoles: No murmuréis entre vosotros.
43 Therefore Jesus answered them, “Don’t murmur among yourselves.
44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me attracts them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 44 Ninguno puede venir á mí, si el Padre que me envió no le trajere; y yo le resucitaré en el día postrero.
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.
45 As is written in Scripture by the prophets, ‘Everyone will be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to and learns from the Father comes to me. 45 Escrito está en los profetas: Y serán todos enseñados de Dios.
45 It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learned, comes to me.
46 Not that anyone has seen God, except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.
46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.
47 I tell you the truth: anyone who trusts in him has eternal life.
47 Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.
48 I am the bread of life. 48 Yo soy el pan de vida.
48 I am the bread of life.
49 Your forefathers ate manna in the desert but they still died.
49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.
50 But this is the bread that comes down from heaven, and anyone who eats it won't ever die.
50 This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die.
51 I am the life-giving bread from heaven, and anyone who eats this bread will live forever. The bread is my flesh that I give so that the world may live.” 51 Yo soy el pan vivo que he descendido del cielo: si alguno comiere de este pan, vivirá para siempre; y el pan que yo daré es mi carne, la cual yo daré por la vida del mundo.
51 I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
52 Then the Jews argued heatedly among themselves. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.
52 The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
53 Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you cannot truly live. 53 Y Jesús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Si no comiereis la carne del Hijo del hombre, y bebiereis su sangre, no tendréis vida en vosotros.
53 Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.
54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I remain in them.
56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
57 Just as the life-giving Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. 57 Como me envió el Padre viviente, y yo vivo por el Padre, asimismo el que me come, él también vivirá por mí.
57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.
58 Now this is the bread that came down from heaven, not the kind your forefathers ate and still died. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.” 58 Este es el pan que descendió del cielo: no como vuestros padres comieron el maná, y son muertos: el que come de este pan, vivirá eternamente.
58 This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
59 Jesus explained this while he was teaching in a synagogue at Capernaum.
59 He said these things in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many of his disciples when they heard it said, “This is hard to accept! Who can follow it?” 60 Y muchos de sus discípulos oyéndo[lo], dijeron: Dura es esta palabra: ¿quién la puede oir?
60 Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?”
61 Jesus saw that his disciples were complaining about this, so he asked them, “Are you offended by this? 61 Y sabiendo Jesús en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, díjoles: ¿Esto os escandaliza?
61 But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?
62 Then what if you were to see the Son ascend to where he was before?
62 Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
63 The Spirit gives life; the physical body doesn't do anything. The words I've told you are spirit and life!
63 It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
64 Yet there are some of you who don't trust me.” (Jesus had known from the very beginning who didn't trust him, and who would betray him.) 64 Mas hay algunos de vosotros que no creen.
64 But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.
65 Jesus added, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is made possible by the Father.” 65 Y dijo: Por eso os he dicho que ninguno puede venir á mí, si no le fuere dado del Padre.
65 He said, “For this cause I have said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.”
66 From this time on many of Jesus' disciples gave up and no longer followed him.
66 At this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him.
67 Then Jesus asked the twelve disciples, “What about you? You don't want to leave as well, do you?” 67 Dijo entonces Jesús á los doce: ¿Queréis vosotros iros también?
67 Jesus said therefore to the twelve, “You don’t also want to go away, do you?”
68 Simon Peter answered, “Lord, who would we follow? You're the one who has the words of eternal life. 68 Y respondióle Simón Pedro: Señor, ¿á quién iremos? tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69 We trust in you, and we're convinced that you are God's Holy One.” 69 Y nosotros creemos y conocemos que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios viviente.
69 We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
70 Jesus replied, “Didn't I choose you, the twelve disciples? Yet one of you is a devil.” 70 Jesús le respondió: ¿No he escogido yo á vosotros doce, y uno de vosotros es diablo?
70 Jesus answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
71 (Jesus was referring to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. He was the one of the twelve disciples who would betray Jesus.) 71 Y hablaba de Judas Iscariote, [hijo] de Simón, porque éste era el que le había de entregar, el cual era uno de los doce.
71 Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
