PT1904 Patriarchal Text 1904 (accented, eBible edition)
6 I oprostivši se jedan s drugim uđosmo u lađu; a oni se vratiše svojim kućama.
10 Stojeći mi pak onde mnogo dana, dođe odozgo iz Judeje jedan prorok, po imenu Agav;
11 i došavši k nama uze pojas Pavlov i svezavši svoje ruke i noge reče: Tako veli Duh Sveti: Čoveka kog je ovaj pojas, ovako će ga svezati u Jerusalimu Jevreji, i predaće ga u ruke neznabožaca.
14 A kad ga ne mogasmo odvratiti, umukosmo rekavši: Volja Božja neka bude.
15 A posle ovih dana spremivši se iziđosmo u Jerusalim.
17 I kad dođosmo u Jerusalim, primiše nas braća ljubazno.
18 A sutradan otide Pavle s nama k Jakovu, i dođoše sve starešine.
19 I pozdravivši se s njima kazivaše sve redom šta učini Bog u neznabošcima njegovom službom.
20 A oni čuvši hvaljahu Boga i rekoše mu: Vidiš li, brate!
23 Ovo dakle učini šta ti kažemo: u nas imaju četiri čoveka koji su se zavetovali Bogu;
28 Vičući: Pomagajte, ljudi Izrailjci! Ovo je čovek koji protiv naroda i zakona i protiv ovog mesta uči sve svuda; pa još i Grke uvede u crkvu i opogani sveto mesto ovo.
32 A on odmah uzevši vojnike i kapetane dotrča na njih. A oni videvši vojvodu i vojnike prestaše biti Pavla.
37 A kad htede Pavle da uđe u logor, reče vojvodi: Je li mi slobodno govoriti šta tebi? A on reče: Zar umeš grčki?
37 Μέλλων τε εἰσάγεσθαι εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν ὁ Παῦλος λέγει τῷ χιλιάρχῳ· εἰ ἔξεστί μοι εἰπεῖν τι πρός σε; ὁ δὲ ἔφη· Ἑλληνιστὶ γινώσκεις;
38 Nisi li ti Misirac koji pre ovih dana podbuni i izvede u pustinju četiri hiljade hajduka?
38 οὐκ ἄρα σὺ εἶ ὁ Αἰγύπτιος ὁ πρὸ τούτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀναστατώσας καὶ ἐξαγαγὼν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον τοὺς τετρακισχιλίους ἄνδρας τῶν σικαρίων;
40 A kad mu dopusti, stade Pavle na basamacima i mahnu rukom na narod; i kad posta velika tišina progovori jevrejskim jezikom govoreći:

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 21:18 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles (Homily XLVI)

This was the Bishop of Jerusalem; and to him (Paul) is sent on an earlier occasion. This (James) was brother of the Lord; a great and admirable man. (To him, it says,) "Paul entered in with us." Mark the (Bishop's) unassuming behavior: "and the elders" (were present).

Read in context · Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, series 1, vol. 11 (1889)

  2. Quotes verse 21:39 Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm XLVIII)

Of which city was the Apostle Paul, being born in Tarsus of Cilicia. But some have understood by it Carthage, being haply sometimes so named, or in some language so signified.

Read in context · Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, series 1, vol. 8 (1888)

  3. Quotes verse 21:20 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily V)

This man gives directions to Paul himself, when he was after this come up again to Jerusalem, saying, "Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are of them that are come together." So great was his understanding and his zeal, or rather so great the power of Christ.
