PT1904 Patriarchal Text 1904 (accented, eBible edition)
2 I prošavši one zemlje, i svetovavši ih mnogim rečima, dođe u Grčku.
4 I pođe s njim do Azije Sosipatar Pirov iz Verije, i Aristarh i Sekund iz Soluna, i Gaj iz Derve i Timotije, i Tihik i Trofim iz Azije.
5 Ovi otišavši napred čekahu nas u Troadi.
8 I behu mnoge sveće gore u sobi gde se bejasmo sabrali.
11 Onda iziđe gore, i prelomivši hleb okusi, i dovoljno govori do same zore, i tako otide.
12 A momče dovedoše živo, i utešiše se ne malo.
14 A kad se sasta s nama u Asu, uzesmo ga, i dođosmo u Mitilinu.
18 I kad dođoše k njemu, reče im: Vi znate od prvog dana kad dođoh u Aziju kako s vama jednako bih
19 služeći Gospodu sa svakom poniznosti i mnogim suzama i napastima koje mi se dogodiše od Jevreja koji mi rađahu o glavi;
21 svedočeći i Jevrejima i Grcima pokajanje k Bogu i veru u Gospoda našeg Isusa Hrista.
22 I sad evo ja svezan Duhom idem u Jerusalim ne znajući šta će mi se u njemu dogoditi;
25 I evo sad znam da više nećete videti moje lice, vi svi po kojima prolazih propovedajući carstvo Božje.
26 Zato vam svedočim u današnji dan da sam ja čist od krvi sviju;
27 jer ne izostavih da pokažem volju Božju.
28 Pazite dakle na sebe i na sve stado u kome vas Duh Sveti postavi vladikama da pasete crkvu Gospoda i Boga koju steče krvlju svojom;
29 jer ja ovo znam da će po odlasku mom ući među vas teški vuci koji neće štedeti stada;
32 I sad vas, braćo, predajem Bogu i reči blagodati Njegove, koji može nazidati i dati vam nasledstvo među svima osvećenima.
37 A sviju stade veliki plač i zagrlivši Pavla celivahu ga,

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 20:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles (Homily XLIII)

    There was need of much comforting after that uproar. Accordingly, having done this, he goes into Macedonia, and then into Greece. For, it says, "when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, and there abode three months.

  2. Quotes verse 20:35 Clement of Rome, First Epistle to the Corinthians (Chapters I–VI)

    Moreover, ye were all distinguished by humility, and were in no respect puffed up with pride, but yielded obedience rather than extorted it, and were more willing to give than to receive. Content with the provision which God had made for you, and carefully attending to His words, ye were inwardly filled with His doctrine, and His sufferings were before …

    Therefore also with regard to Paul, that he wept, that he did so three years night and day, both he hath said of himself, and others say this of him; but that he laughed, neither hath he said himself anywhere, neither hath so much as one other of the saints, either concerning him, or any other like him; but this …

  5. Quotes verse 20:30 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily LIX)

    Declaring this, Paul said, "Without were fightings, within were fears;" and, "In perils among false brethren;" and in his discourse to the Milesians too He said, "Also of you shall some arise speaking perverse things;" and He Himself too said, "The man's foes shall be they of his own household." But when He said, "It must needs be," it is …
