1 Zato, braćo moja ljubazna i poželjena, radosti i venče moj!
2 Evodiju molim, i Sintihiju molim da jedno misle u Gospodu,
9 što i naučiste, i primiste i čuste, i videste u meni, ono činite, i Bog mira biće s vama.
13 Sve mogu u Isusu Hristu koji mi moć daje.
15 A znate i vi, Filibljani, da od početka jevanđelja, kad iziđoh iz Makedonije, nijedna mi crkva ne prista u stvar davanja i uzimanja osim vas jednih;
16 jer i u Solun i jednom i drugom poslaste mi u potrebu moju.
18 A ja sam primio sve i imam izobila.
20 A Bogu i Ocu našem slava va vek veka. Amin.
21 Pozdravite svakog svetog u Hristu Isusu.
23 Blagodat Gospoda našeg Isusa Hrista sa svima vama. Amin.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 4:4 John Chrysostom, Homilies on Philippians (Homily XIV)

"Blessed are they that mourn," and "woe unto them that laugh" (Matt. v. 4; Luke vi. 25.), saith Christ. How then saith Paul, "Rejoice in the Lord alway"? "Woe to them that laugh," said Christ, the laughter of this world which ariseth from the things which are present.

Wherefore also Paul says, "I do not seek after a gift, but I seek after fruit." To His disciples He said, who had a priesthood of the Lord, to whom it …
