1 CUANDO te sentares á comer con algún señor, considera bien lo que estuviere delante de ti;
2 Y pon cuchillo á tu garganta, si tienes gran apetito.
6 Ne jedi hleba u zavidljivca, i ne želi preslačaka njegovih.
7 Jer kako on tebe ceni u duši svojoj tako ti jelo njegovo. Govoriće ti: Jedi i pij; ali srce njegovo nije s tobom.
8 Zalogaj što pojedeš izbljuvaćeš, i izgubićeš ljubazne reči svoje.
12 Obrati k nauci srce svoje i uši svoje k rečima mudrim.
14 Ti ga bij prutom, i dušu ćeš mu izbaviti iz pakla.
15 Sine moj, ako bude mudro srce tvoje, veseliće se srce moje u meni;
15 Hijo mío, si tu corazón fuere sabio, también á mí se me alegrará el corazón;
17 Srce tvoje neka ne zavidi grešnicima, nego budi u strahu Gospodnjem uvek.
19 Slušaj, sine moj, i budi mudar i upravi putem srce svoje.
21 Jer pijanica i izjelica osiromašiće, i spavač hodiće u ritama.
23 Kupuj istinu i ne prodaji je; kupuj mudrost, znanje i razum.
25 Neka se, dakle, veseli otac tvoj i mati tvoja, i neka se raduje roditeljka tvoja.
26 Sine moj, daj mi srce svoje, i oči tvoje neka paze na moje pute.
26 Dame, hijo mío, tu corazón, y miren tus ojos por mis caminos.
27 Jer je kurva duboka jama, a tesan studenac tuđa žena.
28 Ona i zaseda kao lupež i umnožava zločince među ljudima.
31 No mires al vino cuando rojea, cuando resplandece su color en el vaso: éntrase suavemente;
35 Reći ćeš: Izbiše me, ali me ne zabole; tukoše me, ali ne osetih; kad se probudim, ići ću opet da tražim to.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).
