1 Psalam. Pesma za subotu. Lepo je hvaliti Gospoda, i pevati imenu Tvom, Višnji,
1 Salmo: Canción para el día del Sábado. BUENO es alabar á Jehová, y cantar salmos á tu nombre, oh Altísimo;
2 Javljati jutrom milost Tvoju, i istinu Tvoju noću,
3 Uz deset žica i uz psaltir, i uz jasne gusle!
6 Bezumnik ne zna, i neznalica ne razume to.
9 Jer evo neprijatelji Tvoji, Gospode, jer evo neprijatelji Tvoji ginu, i rasipaju se svi koji čine bezakonje;
9 Porque he aquí tus enemigos, oh Jehová, porque he aquí, perecerán tus enemigos; serán disipados todos los que obran maldad.
10 A moj rog Ti uzvišuješ kao rog u jednoroga, ja sam pomazan novim uljem.
13 Koji su zasađeni u domu Gospodnjem, zelene se u dvorovima Boga našeg;
14 Rodni su i u starosti, jedri i zeleni,
14 Aun en la vejez fructificarán; estarán vigorosos y verdes;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm XCI)

    This Psalm is that from which the Devil dared to tempt our Lord Jesus Christ: let us therefore attend to it, that thus armed, we may be enabled to resist the tempter, not presuming in ourselves, but in Him who before us was tempted, that we might not be overcome when tempted.

    … endowed with senses, compacted with limbs, beautified with form, and, for its general good and safety, hast introduced all vital energies--Thou commandest me to praise Thee for these things, "to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praise unto Thy name, O Most High;" for Thou art a God omnipotent and good, though Thou hadst done nought but these …

  3. Quotes verse 92:15 Basil of Caesarea, On the Holy Spirit (Chapter XIX)

    He is called good, as the Father is good, and He who was begotten of the Good is good, and to the Spirit His goodness is essence.
