5 Не можеш клати пасхе на сваком месту свом које ти да Господ Бог твој;
5 No podrás sacrificar la pascua en ninguna de tus ciudades, que Jehová tu Dios te da;
16 Три пута у години нека дође свако мушко пред Господа Бога твог на место које изабере: на празник пресних хлебова, на празник недеља и на празник сеница, али нико да не дође празан пред Господа;
21 Не сади луга ни од каквих дрвета код олтара Господа Бога свог, који начиниш;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 16:5 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book IV, Chapter IX)

    … the passover within any other of thy cities which the Lord God gives thee; but in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose that His name be called on there, thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, towards the setting of the sun."

  2. Quotes verse 16:16 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book IV, Chapter XVIII)

    … thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then return and offer thy gift." We are bound, therefore, to offer to God the first-fruits of His creation, as Moses also says, "Thou shalt not appear in the presence of the Lord thy God empty;" so that man, being accounted as grateful, by those things in which he has shown …
