1 A Song of a Psalm for Asaph.
·
·
2 O God, who shall be compared to thee? be not silent, neither be still, O God.
83:1 Canción: Salmo de Asaph. OH Dios, no tengas silencio: no calles, oh Dios, ni te estés quieto.
83:1 A song. A Psalm by Asaph. God, don’t keep silent. Don’t keep silent, and don’t be still, God.
3 For behold, thine enemies have made a noise; and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
83:2 For, behold, your enemies are stirred up. Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.
4 Against thy people they have craftily imagined a device, and have taken counsel against thy saints.
83:3 They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones.
5 They have said, Come, and let us utterly destroy them out of the nation; and let the name of Israel be remembered no more at all.
83:4 “Come,” they say, “let’s destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”
6 For they have taken counsel together with one consent: they have made a confederacy against thee;
83:5 Por esto han conspirado de corazón á una, contra ti han hecho liga;
83:5 For they have conspired together with one mind. They form an alliance against you.
7 even the tents of the Idumeans, and the Ismaelites; Moab, and the Agarenes;
83:6 Los pabellones de los Idumeos y de los Ismaelitas, Moab y los Agarenos;
83:6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagrites;
8 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalec; the Philistines also, with them that dwell at Tyre.
83:7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
9 Yea, Assur too is come with them: they have become a help to the children of Lot. Pause.
(Selah.)
83:8 Assyria also is joined with them. They have helped the children of Lot. Selah.
10 Do thou to them as to Madiam, and to Sisera; as to Jabin at the brook of Kison.
83:9 Hazles como á Madián; como á Sísara, como á Jabín en el arroyo de Cisón;
83:9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;
11 They were utterly destroyed at Aendor: they became as dung for the earth.
83:10 who perished at Endor, who became as dung for the earth.
12 Make their princes as Oreb and Zeb, and Zebee and Salmana; [even] all their princes:
83:11 Pon á ellos y á sus capitanes como á Oreb y como á Zeeb; y como á Zeba y como á Zalmunna, á todos sus príncipes;
83:11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
13 who said, Let us take to ourselves the altar of God as an inheritance.
83:12 who said, “Let’s take possession of God’s pasture lands.”
14 O my God, make them as a wheel; as stubble before the face of the wind.
83:13 My God, make them like tumbleweed, like chaff before the wind.
15 As fire which shall burn up a wood, as the flame may consume the mountains;
83:14 As the fire that burns the forest, as the flame that sets the mountains on fire,
16 so shalt thou persecute them with thy tempest, and trouble them in thine anger.
83:15 so pursue them with your tempest, and terrify them with your storm.
17 Fill their faces with dishonour; so shall they seek thy name, O Lord.
83:16 Fill their faces with confusion, that they may seek your name, Yahweh.
18 Let them be ashamed and troubled for evermore; yea, let them be confounded and destroyed.
83:17 Sean afrentados y turbados para siempre; y sean deshonrados, y perezcan.
83:17 Let them be disappointed and dismayed forever. Yes, let them be confounded and perish;
19 And let them know that thy name is Lord; that thou alone art Most High over all the earth.
83:18 that they may know that you alone, whose name is Yahweh, are the Most High over all the earth.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LXXXII)

    This Psalm, like others similarly named, was so entitled either from the name of the man who wrote it, or from the explanation of that same name, so as to refer in meaning to the Synagogue, which Asaph signifies; especially as this is intimated in the first verse. For it begins, "God stood in the synagogue of gods" (ver. 1).

  2. Cita 83:16 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XIV, Chapters 12–13)

    And this is averred by the sacred Psalmist when he says, "Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Thy name, O Lord;" that is, that they who have pleased themselves in seeking their own glory may be pleased and satisfied with Thee in seeking Thy glory.

  3. Cita 83:3 John of Damascus, An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith (Book III, Chapters XII–XIV)

    Sometimes it signifies exhortation: as when the divine apostle says, Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord; yet I give my judgment: sometimes it means counsel, as when the prophet David says, They have taken crafty counsel against Thy people: sometimes it means a decree, as when we read in Daniel, Concerning whom (or, what) went …
