1 (22-1) For the Leader; upon Aijeleth ha-Shahar. A Psalm of David. (22-2) My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me, and art far from my help at the words of my cry?
1 For the Chief Musician; set to “The Doe of the Morning.” A Psalm by David. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
2 (22-3) O my God, I call by day, but Thou answerest not; and at night, and there is no surcease for me.
2 My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don’t answer; in the night season, and am not silent.
3 (22-4) Yet Thou art holy, O Thou that art enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
3 But you are holy, you who inhabit the praises of Israel.
4 (22-5) In Thee did our fathers trust; they trusted, and Thou didst deliver them.
4 Our fathers trusted in you. They trusted, and you delivered them.
5 (22-6) Unto Thee they cried, and escaped; in Thee did they trust, and were not ashamed.
5 They cried to you, and were delivered. They trusted in you, and were not disappointed.
6 (22-7) But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people.
7 (22-8) All they that see me laugh me to scorn; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head:
7 All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,
8 (22-9) 'Let him commit himself unto the LORD! let Him rescue him; let Him deliver him, seeing He delighteth in him.'
8 “He trusts in Yahweh. Let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him.”
9 (22-10) For Thou art He that took me out of the womb; Thou madest me trust when I was upon my mother's breasts.
9 But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother’s breasts.
10 (22-11) Upon Thee I have been cast from my birth; Thou art my God from my mother's womb.
10 I was thrown on you from my mother’s womb. You are my God since my mother bore me.
11 (22-12) Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
11 Don’t be far from me, for trouble is near. For there is no one to help.
12 (22-13) Many bulls have encompassed me; strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
12 Many bulls have surrounded me. Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
13 (22-14) They open wide their mouth against me, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
13 They open their mouths wide against me, lions tearing prey and roaring.
14 (22-15) I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is become like wax; it is melted in mine inmost parts.
14 I am poured out like water. All my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax. It is melted within me.
15 (22-16) My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my throat; and Thou layest me in the dust of death.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have brought me into the dust of death.
16◆ (22-17) For dogs have encompassed me; a company of evil-doers have inclosed me; like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet.
16 For dogs have surrounded me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They have pierced my hands and feet.
17 (22-18) I may count all my bones; they look and gloat over me.
17 I can count all of my bones. They look and stare at me.
18 (22-19) They part my garments among them, and for my vesture do they cast lots.
18 They divide my garments among them. They cast lots for my clothing.
19 (22-20) But Thou, O LORD, be not far off; O Thou my strength, hasten to help me.
19 But don’t be far off, Yahweh. You are my help. Hurry to help me!
20 (22-21) Deliver my soul from the sword; mine only one from the power of the dog.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog.
21 (22-22) Save me from the lion's mouth; yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen do Thou answer me.
21 Save me from the lion’s mouth! Yes, you have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen.
22 (22-23) I will declare Thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise Thee.
22 I will declare your name to my brothers. Among the assembly, I will praise you.
23 (22-24) 'Ye that fear the LORD, praise Him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and stand in awe of Him, all ye the seed of Israel.
23 You who fear Yahweh, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him! Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Israel!
24 (22-25) For He hath not despised nor abhorred the lowliness of the poor; neither hath He hid His face from him; but when he cried unto Him, He heard.'
24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, neither has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.
25 (22-26) From Thee cometh my praise in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before them that fear Him.
25 My praise of you comes in the great assembly. I will pay my vows before those who fear him.
26 (22-27) Let the humble eat and be satisfied; let them praise the LORD that seek after Him; may your heart be quickened for ever!
26 The humble shall eat and be satisfied. They shall praise Yahweh who seek after him. Let your hearts live forever.
27 (22-28) All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee.
27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to Yahweh. All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.
28 (22-29) For the kingdom is the LORD'S; and He is the ruler over the nations.
28 For the kingdom is Yahweh’s. He is the ruler over the nations.
29 (22-30) All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship; all they that go down to the dust shall kneel before Him, even he that cannot keep his soul alive.
29 All the rich ones of the earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him, even he who can’t keep his soul alive.
30 (22-31) A seed shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation.
30 Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord.
31 (22-32) They shall come and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that He hath done it.
31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, for he has done it.
