3 Jer su uredbe u naroda taština, jer seku drvo u šumi, delo ruku umetničkih sekirom;
4 Srebrom i zlatom ukrašuju ga, klinima i čekićima utvrđuju ga da se ne pomiče;
Jer Tebi to pripada; jer među svim mudracima u naroda i u svim carstvima njihovim nema takvog kakav si Ti.
12 On je načinio zemlju silom svojom, utvrdio vasiljenu mudrošću svojom, i razumom svojim razastro nebesa;
12 El que hizo la tierra con su potencia, el que puso en orden el mundo con su saber, y extendió los cielos con su prudencia;
14 Todo hombre se embrutece [y le] falta ciencia; avergüéncese de su vaciadizo todo fundidor: porque mentira es su obra de fundición, y no hay espíritu en ellos;
16 Nije takav deo Jakovljev, jer je Tvorac svemu, i Izrailj Mu je nasledstvo, ime Mu je Gospod nad vojskama.
21 Jer pastiri postaše bezumni i Gospoda ne tražiše; zato ne biše srećni, i sve se stado njihovo rasprša.
24 Karaj me, Gospode, ali s merom, ne u gnevu svom, da me ne bi zatro.

Why does my Bible say something different?

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 10:11 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book III, Chapter VI)

    Jeremiah also says the same: "The gods that have not made the heavens and earth, let them perish from the earth which is under the heaven." For, from the fact of his having subjoined their destruction, he shows them to be no gods at all.

  2. Quotes verse 10:11 Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm XLVIII)

    This shall ye say to them, "The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from those that are under the heavens." He is not such a god: for our God is above all gods.

  3. Quotes verse 10:11 Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm XCIX)

    He said, "The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, let them perish from the earth, and from under the heaven." He said not, The gods that have not made the heavens and earth, let them perish from the heaven and from the earth; because they never were in heaven: but what did he say?
