1 A potom izabra Gospod i drugih sedamdesetoricu, i posla ih po dva i dva pred licem svojim u svaki grad i u mesto kuda htede sam doći.
8 Y en cualquier ciudad donde entrareis, y os recibieren, comed lo que os pusieren delante;
15 I ti, Kapernaume! Koji si se do nebesa podigao do pakla ćeš propasti.
I đavoli nam se pokoravaju u ime Tvoje.
18 A On im reče: Ja videh sotonu gde spade s neba kao munja.
19 Evo vam dajem vlast da stajete na zmije i na skorpije i na svaku silu neprijateljsku, i ništa vam neće nauditi.
25 I gle, ustade jedan zakonik i kušajući Ga reče: Učitelju!
26 A On mu reče: Šta je napisano u zakonu?
27 A on odgovarajući reče: Ljubi Gospoda Boga svog svim srcem svojim, i svom dušom svojom, i svom snagom svojom, i svom misli svojom, i bližnjeg svog kao samog sebe.
28 Reče mu pak: Pravo si odgovorio; to čini i bićeš živ.
28 Y díjole: Bien has respondido: haz esto, y vivirás.
31 A iznenada silažaše onim putem nekakav sveštenik, i videvši ga prođe.
33 A Samarjanin nekakav prolazeći dođe nad njega, i videvši ga sažali mu se;
33 Mas un Samaritano que transitaba, viniendo cerca de él, y viéndole, fué movido á misericordia;
34 i pristupivši zavi mu rane i zali uljem i vinom; i posadivši ga na svoje kljuse dovede u gostionicu, i ustade oko njega.
38 A kad iđahu putem i On uđe u jedno selo, a žena neka, po imenu Marta, primi Ga u svoju kuću.
41 A Isus odgovarajući reče joj: Marta! Marta!

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 10:2 Augustine of Hippo, Sermons on Selected Lessons of the New Testament (Sermon LI)

By the lesson of the Gospel which has just been read, we are reminded to search what that harvest is of which the Lord says, "The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few.

  2. Quotes verse 10:16 Justin Martyr, First Apology (Chapters LXII–LXV)

And He is called Angel and Apostle; for He declares whatever we ought to know, and is sent forth to declare whatever is revealed; as our Lord Himself says, "He that heareth Me, heareth Him that sent Me." From the writings of Moses also this will be manifest; for thus it is written in them, "And the Angel of God …

  5. Quotes verse 10:20 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily XXXII)

Hearken also unto Christ, saying, "Rejoice not that the demons obey you, but that your names are written in Heaven." And again before this, "Many will say to me in that day, Have we not prophesied in Thy name, and cast out devils, and done many mighty works, and then I will profess unto them, I know you not."
