1 Molitva Davidova. Prigni, Gospode, uho svoje i usliši me, jer sam nevoljan i ništ.
5 Jer si Ti, Gospode, dobar i milosrdan i veoma milostiv svima koji Te prizivaju.
6 Čuj, Gospode, molitvu moju, i slušaj glas moljenja mog.
7 U dan tuge svoje prizivam Te, jer ćeš me uslišiti.
8 Nema među bogovima takvog kakav si Ti, Gospode, i nema dela takvih kakva su Tvoja.
9 Svi narodi, koje si stvorio, doći će i pokloniti se pred Tobom, Gospode, i slaviti ime Tvoje.
10 Jer si Ti velik i tvoriš čudesa; Ti si jedan Bog.
12 Slaviću Te, Gospode Bože moj, svim srcem svojim, i poštovaću ime Tvoje doveka.
14 Bože, oholice ustaše na mene, i gomila nasilnika traži dušu moju, i nemaju Tebe pred sobom.
15 Ali Ti, Gospode, Bože milostivi i blagi, strpljivi i bogati dobrotom i istinom,
15 Mas tú, Señor, Dios misericordioso y clemente, lento para la ira, y grande en misericordia y verdad;
16 Pogledaj na me i smiluj mi se, daj silu svoju sluzi svom, i pomozi sinu sluškinje svoje;
Neka vide koji me nenavide, i postide se, što si mi, Gospode, pomogao i utešio me.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LXXXV)

Its title is, "A Psalm for the end, to the sons of Core." Let us understand no other end than that of which the Apostle speaks: for, "Christ is the end of the law." Therefore when at the head of the title of the Psalm he placed the words, "for the end," he directed our heart to Christ.

  2. Quotes verse 86:15 Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (Book I, Chapters XIV–XVIII)

Thou seest this, O Lord, and keepest silence, "long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth," as Thou art.

  3. Quotes verse 86:8 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily XXXVII)

… so too, the Old Testament uses in the same way to correct the souls of the erring, by putting together in a way of comparison things that cannot be compared; as when it saith, "Among the gods there is none like unto Thee, O Lord:" and again, "There is no god like our God." Now some affirm, that Christ said …

  4. Quotes verse 86:4 Augustine of Hippo, Sermons on Selected Lessons of the New Testament (Sermon II)

… I may say of it, think ye that in this "body which presseth down the soul," I shall be able to say (in order that I may speak to you something worthy of the subject), "O Lord, I have lifted up my soul unto Thee." May He assist me, may He lift it up with me.

  5. Quotes verse 86:11 Augustine of Hippo, Tractates on the Gospel of John (Chapter X — 1-10)

But let all of us be guided by Him to whom we say, "Lead me, O Lord, in Thy way, and I will walk in Thy truth."
