Psalm 151 Church Slavonic Bible (Elizabeth Bible)
Notes on this text (4)
- Greek and Latin Bibles number most Psalms one lower than Hebrew and English Bibles.
- Psalms are numbered as in the Septuagint (Psalm 50 = Psalm 51 in English Bibles); verse numbers follow the Russian Synodal Bible, where a psalm's title is verse 1 (or 1–2).
- Psalms 13, 71, 92, 127 and 129 divide their verses differently from the Russian Synodal Bible, so a few verse numbers there do not match it; the line "The songs of David, son of Jesse, are ended" opens Psalm 72 (with its title) instead of closing Psalm 71.
- Church Slavonic in its traditional (Synodal) spelling, with accents, breathings and titlo abbreviations, shown in the Ponomar font (SIL Open Font License).
Why does my Bible say something different?
- Psalm 151: the psalm “outside the number”
Most copies of the Greek Psalter end with a short Psalm 151, in which David tells of his anointing and his victory over Goliath. It is not in the Masoretic Hebrew Psalter. The Orthodox Church includes it in its Psalter; the Catholic Church and Protestants do not count it as canonical. A Hebrew form of it was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
